Thanks to the night’s most-watched program Dancing With the Stars, and a strong series premiere for Samantha Who?, ABC easily takes the evening.

Fox gets a better performance out of its MLB Playoffs game, while both CBS and NBC register week-to-week improvements.

Thanks to the heavily-hyped football matchup between the Patriots and Cowboys (which had monster ratings approaching 30 million viewers) CBS easily won the evening across all main categories.

ABC however wasn’t affected by the increased eyeballs over at CBS, as the networks lineup grew week-to-week.

Meanwhile over at NBC, Sunday Night Football drew season low numbers and The CW’s lineup continues to disappoint.

My full analysis follows after the jump.

CBS holds off competitive efforts by ABC, FOX and NBC to place first on the evening among households, viewers and adults 18-49.

Strong series premiere for Women’s Murder Club, the night’s most watched series, can’t lift Men In Trees, which struggled in its new season. Also outings by Friday Night Lights, and CBS’s Moonlight.

MLB Playoffs get off to a slow start on Fox, down from higher level of TBS games, and from last year’s comparable game.

CBS and ABC share leadership at the top, with CBS taking a first place finish among households and viewers, but ABC managed to take first place on the evening among adults 18-49.

The battle is still incredibly competitive between Grey’s Anatomy and CSI at 9:00 p.m., with ‘Grey’s’ getting ever so closer to passing up CSI among households and viewers, and continuing to easily better the show among adults 18-49.

Without A Trace, strangely, isn’t doing as well out of CSI as it once did, falling to second place on the hour among adults 18-49, losing to newcomer Big Shots, which had over 4 million less viewers.

NBC saw another solid (among adults 18-49) outing from its comedies, however 30 Rock saw a bit of a slide over last week’s much improved season premiere.

Over at The CW, the network saw improved performances for both Smallville, and more importantly, Supernatural, which improved a modest amount over last week’s season premiere.

CBS passes ABC as the nights most-watched network among households and viewers, thanks in large part to the night’s most-watched program Criminal Minds, which continues to perform well against the younger skewing Private Practice (nights most-watched program among adults 18-49) and Bionic Woman.

ABC’s delightfully enjoyable new drama Pushing Daisies goes through a large drop-off, but still was able to win its time period among adults 18-49, while Private Practice has stabilized, showing week-to-week growth among adults 18-49 and Dirty Sexy Money continues to perform so-so, holding on to +70% of its lead-in audience.

Over at NBC, Deal or No Deal increased its total audience for the second straight week, providing NBC with a time period win for the hour among households and viewers. That led into new series Bionic Woman, which dropped a bit in its third week, but not by any significant margin. Same goes for Life.

Fox’s lineup continues to perform only so-so, while The CW got a boost from America’s Next Top Model, which posted its largest audience of the year, and Gossip Girl, which recently got a full-season renewal, held steady, but continues to perform poorly in terms of retention from its lead-in.
