ABC has renewed Boston Legal for a fifth season. Series creator/executive producer David E. Kelley cut a deal with the network that will give the series another year. At the heart of the deal was Life on Mars, which ABC wants to greenlight, but Kelley owns the right to. With the renewal of Boston Legal, a deal for Life on Mars appears imminent. Two more episodes of Boston Legal are left to air this season (Wednesday: 10pm) and the fifth season is scheduled to kick off in the fall.

Get ready for more online content. NBC today announced that webisodes for The Office and Heroes would officially premiere on NBC.com starting this July. First up will be The Office in July. The webisodes will focus on Kevin’s gambling issues and how he plans to pay for his debts. The series will also feature Stanley, Oscar and Darryl. This is the second webisodes series for The Office (The Accountants premiered back in 2006).

Kristin over at E! Online is reporting from her sources that it’s looking “likely” that The CW will renew Reaper. Because of its low ratings, a renewal for Reaper wasn’t expected: “If you had asked me a week ago, I would have said no, but there have been a few changes, and now it’s looking like it’ll probably get the green light,” reports an insider source. Krisin also reported that the network will be picking up the new 90210 spinoff.

Eric Stoltz (pictured right) is the latest addition to the cast of the SCI FI Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica. The actor has been cast as Daniel Graystone, a wealthy computer engineer. In other SCI FI channel news, Frances Fisher has signed onto the drama/comedy Eureka for an eight episode run. The actress will play Samantha Thorne, aka “the fixer”. [Sci-Fi Wire]
What’s old is new again as Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Jennie Garth has been cast in the CW’s spinoff. The actress will reprise her role as Keylly Taylor from the original series and will play a guidance counselor at West Beverly Hills High, her alma mater. [THR]

You may soon be able to purchase your favorite HBO shows on iTunes. Portfolio is reporting that Time Warner (parent company of HBO) is close to announcing a deal to sell their shows on Apple’s iTunes service, with flexible pricing. The deal marks the first time that Apple has agreed to a separate price structure.

The CW has canceled the low-performing freshman comedy series Aliens in America, according to TV Guide. Despite solid reviews from critics, the series just never managed to find a consistent audience from TV viewers, often dropping below 1 million viewers. There remains just one episode left to be aired. Through 17 original episodes, the show has averaged 1.60M viewers and a 0.6/2 rating/share among adults.

Spaced fans rejoice. Fox has turned down a pilot (executive produced by McG) of the adaptation to the cult British TV series. Creators of the original show had voiced their disapproval and concern over the project recently (they had no input).

ABC Adds Two Hours to Lost May 9, 2008 12:50 pm

The final two seasons of Lost will be two episodes longer. The 2009 and 2010 seasons of the series will be 17 hours each, not 16 as was originally planned. When the network picked the show up for three more seasons, it was for 48 hours (16-16-16), but because the writer’s strike knocked out three hours out of the current season, the network is compensating for that loss. ABC recently added an additional hour to Part 2 of the season finale that airs on May 29th.

IGN is reporting that Isabel Lucas (pictured right) has been cast in the role of Alice in the sequel to Transformers. Meanwhile, Michael Bay posted on his personal blog that “Teresa Palmer was not considered for a role”, counter to an initial report that said the actress was in negotiations for a part in the film.
Esai Morales (Jericho) has joined the cast of SCI FI Channel’s two-hour Caprica pilot. The series is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica. Morales will play Joseph Adama, the father of William Adama (played by Edward James Olmos in BSG). [THR]

AMC’s second original series Breaking Bad is coming back for another season. The series has received a 13 episode second season pickup. According to numbers released by Nielsen, the series averaged a 0.9 household rating or 825,000 households, an improvement on the network’s 2007 primetime averages by 4% and 5%, respectively.

Two pilots from the SCI FI channel have added cast members to their lineup. Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly have been cast to star in the two-hour dramedy pilot Warehouse 13, while Paula Malcomson has been cast as the female lead in Caprica, the networks prequel series to Battlestar Galactica.

Sorry Men in Trees fans. TVGuide is reporting that ABC has cut down the sophomore drama. The site reports they were informed of the news by series creator Jenny Bicks, who herself was informed of the cancellation decision late last week: “I am really proud of the work we did on MIT,” she tells me. “A huge thank you to our supportive fans.”

Jonah Hill is in early negotiations to costar opposite Shia LaBeouf in Transformers 2, according to EW while the Courier Mail is reporting that Australian actress Teresa Palmer has been cast in the film as well.
Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann are returning to “Witch Mountain”. The original kid stars of the 70’s movies have been cast in Race to Witch Mountain, Disney’s re-imagining of the adventure series. [THR]
Hector Elizondo (Cane) has been tapped by USA to join Monk as Tony Shalhoub’s new shrink, after the unfortunate death of Stakley Kamel, who played Dr. Kroger on the series. Elizondo will show up on the 7th season premiere of the series. [TV Guide]

The nominations for the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced this morning on The View. You can check out a list of the nominations by clicking here. The Award show will be broadcast on ABC in prime time from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET on ABC on June 20th from the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.



CNN’s coverage of the Indiana and North Carolina primaries last night topped Fox News and MSNBC, drawing an average audience of 2.65 million viewers from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. ET, 19% stronger than its nearest competitor Fox News. Among the key news demo adults 25-54, the results were even better for CNN. The network drew 1.04 million A25-54, 35% stronger than second place MSNBC and 44% stronger than third place Fox News.
