Here’s an odd casting rumor for the title character of WB’s Green Lantern project. According to Latino Review, Sam Worthington was unavailable due to his role in Clash of Titans, Ryan Goslin passed on the role and Emile Hirsch also just passed:
So the producers are looking at every young up and coming actor in Hollywood” INCLUDING a name I at first found peculiar, but it grew on me and I wanted to share it with you guys.
Anton Yelchin.
Yelchin has certainly landed some high profile roles recently — Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation and Chekov in Star Trek — but I can’t quite picture him in the role of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern.
Green Lantern hits theaters on December 17, 2010.

IGN Movies is reporting that Universal Pictures is planning to turn the TV series Battlestar Galactica into a feature film with original series creator Glen A. Larson lined up to script and produce it. The project, which Universal Pictures initially declined to comment on before ultimately denying it, would actually be based on the original BSG series that aired in 1978-1979, and NOT the currently running reboot on the SCI FI channel headed by Ron Moore.
Despite the Universal denial, IGN insists to expect an official announcement on the project in the coming weeks.
Wachowski Brothers Taking on Superman Reboot? February 11, 2009 8:16 pm

Check out this very, very interesting rumor. AICN was sent in a scoop from a reader who had seen an interview with V for Vendetta director James McTeigue on a Berlin telvision station, and the director revealed that the Wachowski brothers’ next project, Plastic Man (of which he was scheduled to do some 2nd-unit shooting) has been put on hold at Warner Bros.
The bigger news, however, has to do with what the scooper has to say about the Superman franchise:
Bryan Singer has refused to undertake a re-boot of the Superman franchise and has left the Executives at WB with no choice but to takea fresh creative direction.
He stated the Wachowski Brothers had been approached to re-boot the franchise as a trilogy and they are currently reviewing their options as its like being asked to take the final play in a superbowl final. Says if they do agree, he will likely either succumb to providing second unit support on the movie or will champion the directorship of Plastic Man – He started to giggle as he stated its like a young child for the Brothers and they wont give that up easily.
Adam Sandler In The Green Hornet? January 28, 2009 3:30 pm

Here’s a bit more news on Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet. The LA Times Hero Complex blog reports that Adam Sandler has a “brief but key role in the movie as a certain surprise superhero…I heard which one, too, but I don’t want to ruin it.”
Sandler and Rogen are working together on another project, an untitled comedy from Judd Apatow, so the possibility of Sandler making a cameo appearance in The Green Hornet isn’t all that far-fetched.
The Green Hornet is scheduled for a June 25, 2010 release.

McG Wants Will Smith for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea + Talks Possible Arnold Cameo in Terminator January 14, 2009 3:11 pm

LatinoReview got the opportunity to speak with director McG, and the topic of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, for which he was recently announced to helm, came up.
“How do you go from Terminator to the Captain Nemo story?”
McG talked a bit about his idea and frankly I was getting my jacket to get out of there when all of a sudden I heard him say, “The character Nemo in this film is more about obsession, he is obsessed and people tend to forget that when you become so obsessed you end up being the villain.”
AND THEN THE KILLER ANSWER!! (In an interesting way.)
McG continues, “’Man I’m trying to get Will Smith to do it, been trying to get a hold of him. I’ve been wanting to work with him for a long time already. That guy’s great”
McG was also asked about whether Arnold would make a cameo appearance in Terminator Salvation, where he gave another wait and see answer:
“What the hell. Are we seeing Arnold or not?” to which he responded with a grin saying, “You have to wait and see, can’t give that away cause we’re in the Warner Bros. building and they will shoot me if I say anything”
Rumor: James McAvoy as Bilbo Baggins? May 29, 2008 12:38 pm
Posted by Rosario T. Calabria in Casting, Movies, News, Rumors.add a comment
There’s a new rumor circulating the net that has James McAvoy playing Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit. The Daily Express reports:
“A number of names have been doing the rounds, including Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black, but James (MCAvoy) is the one the film’s bosses really want. They’re expected to have talks soon so hopefully it could be confirmed in the not too distant future.”
Though the British source singles out McAvoy, considering the inclusion of two other names, it’s perfectly reasonable to conclude that this rumor has no basis in fact.
Expanding on this a bit. If you missed the chat Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro participated in this past Saturday over at TheOneRing.net (click here for that article), Guillermo said that he has plans to utilize Ian Holm (who played Bilbo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) in “some fashion for sure” and that “the difficulty of the role will be better assessed after” the screenplays are completed. Del Toro also expressed the same thoughts in an interview with Empire Magazine just last week:
“We are writing based on [Ian Holm’s performance], but other than that, we have ideas [of who could play him],” Del Toro told us. “I can tell you that it’s down to a few names that we all agree upon. And that our first choice…completely, magically, we said the same name. All of us!”
COMMENT: So assuming this rumor pans out (and we’ll have to wait awhile as Del Toro has said casting announcements are a year away) what do you think?
