Here’s a bit more news on Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet. The LA Times Hero Complex blog reports that Adam Sandler has a “brief but key role in the movie as a certain surprise superhero…I heard which one, too, but I don’t want to ruin it.”
Sandler and Rogen are working together on another project, an untitled comedy from Judd Apatow, so the possibility of Sandler making a cameo appearance in The Green Hornet isn’t all that far-fetched.
The Green Hornet is scheduled for a June 25, 2010 release.

Last week during Sundance, news spread that Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet project was in trouble, and would soon be getting the axe by Sony. But according to Rogen himself, who has sent in a email to CHUD, the project is still very much a go:
“[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we’re able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibilty [sic], it should still hit the release date.”
That release date, by the way, is June 25, 2010.
There’s also some news in regards to departed director Stephen Chow. AICN is insisting that Chow’s departure from the project was directorial only and that he will STILL play the role of sidekick Kato.

Reports are surfacing that Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet project, set up over at Sony, is running into problems and according to Hitfix, there’s a chance that “the studio’s going to kick the plug out any moment now.”:
[A]t Sundance, I heard several people say that the film was off completely. I spoke this afternoon with a source close to the film, and while they didn’t call it completely dead, they did say it is “highly unlikely” that the film will shoot in 2009 at all.
Considering the rocky road thus far (Stephen Chow pulling out as director and then ultimately as sidekick Kato), the news isn’t entirely unexpected.
We’ll see if the film’s June 25, 2010 release date holds.

Stephen Chow is no longer attached to direct Columbia Pictures’ big-screen adaptation of The Green Hornet. Variety is reporting that Chow stepped aside due to “creative differences”. It’s unclear whether the disagreements arised between the studio, or the project’s producers/screenwriters Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Chow is still attached to play Kato, the sidekick to the Hornet (played by Seth Rogen).
Columbia is looking for a new director that could be announced by the end of the year, and still plans to begin production by spring and release the film on June 25, 2010.

Seth Rogen made it known some time ago that he wanted Stephen Chow to co-star in The Green Hornet as Kato, and now the casting has been confirmed. Additionally, Chow will also helm the 2010 feature film:
“I’m excited to be taking on The Green Hornet–obviously, I’ve been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee’s shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true.” – Stephen Chow
“The material is a perfect match for his sensibilities–Stephen in the director’s chair is the best thing for the film.” – Producer Neil Moritz (I Am Legend, Click)
“Stephen was always my and Evan’s first choice for director and to play Kato. We just hope that he never finds out we’re not the Wachowski Brothers.” – Seth Rogen
The Green Hornet hits theaters on June 25, 2010.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Sony is moving forward with The Green Hornet. The project is being headed by Seth Rogen, who is currently working on the script with Superbad co-writer Evan Goldberg. No story details have been revealed, save the basic Green Hornet angle and a director has yet to be selected. However, EW does note that the studio has pegged the film for June 25, 2010. That would put it three week’s after Marvel’s Thor and just one week after Toy Story 3.
