Variety is reporting an interesting bit of casting news on Columbia’s The Green Hornet. The studio has tapped Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) to write and produce and likely star in the action film, which dates back to the 1930s, where it began its life as a radio serial (1936-1952).
The franchise also was seen as a comic book series (1940) and for a brief time a (unsuccessful) television series (1966-1967). The casting news is a definite departure from other actors previously attached to the project (George Clooney, Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Wahlberg).
The Green Hornet is still very early on in the development process as it has struggled to get off the ground in the past. In fact, Columbia is the third studio (after Universal and Miramax) to have the rights to the project.

When will they learn that the Green Hornet is not a super hero? And the character is not to be played in a comedic vein.
