Three shows, two freshman dramas and one long-running one, will not be returning to the lineup next season.  Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Black Donnelly’s and Crossing Jordan have been canceled.

Coming out on top in a bidding war with four other networks (TNT, TBS, USA and Spike TV), FX has landed the exclusive rights to Spider-Man 3.

Lifetime has renewed Blood Ties, its freshman drama about vampires, for a second season.  The network ordered 10 episodes of the hour long show with plans to premiere it in the fall.

“Superman Returns” was the the most awarded film at this years 33rd annual Saturn Awards. The Superman re-launch movie took five awards, including best film (Fantasy), best director (Bryan Singer) and best actor (Brandon Routh).

FOX has no trouble with the competition, easily winning the evening half-hour to half-hour, despite a lower than average outing for American Idol. Also, depressingly low ratings for Veronica Mars.

NBC’s coverage of the 133rd Kentucky Derby on Saturday delivered one of its strongest ratings since 1992, earning an 8.3/13 overnight rating/share from the beginning of NBC’s coverage (5:00 p.m.) to the close according to figures released by Nielsen Media Research.

CBS, FOX and ABC battle it out for first place, with CBS taking households and viewers and FOX first among adults 18-49. Year-to-year, FOX, ABC and The CW were up, while CBS and NBC were down, with the later by more than 20%.

The first debate of the presidential season between the GOP candidates drew a total audience of 1.76M viewers, 500,000 viewers less than what the Democratic debate drew.

Saturday Night Football is returning to ABC. The series of college football games will debut on September 1 with the matchup of Tennessee at California and run for 12 weeks.
