Three shows, two freshman dramas and one long-running one, will not be returning to the lineup next season.  Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Black Donnelly’s and Crossing Jordan have been canceled.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip debuted in September to high expectations and solid ratings (13 million viewers), but the show struggled, both creatively and in the ratings, over the course of the season leading to NBC’s decision to pull it from the lineup.

Six episodes remain unaired, and will be burned off during the summer.

The Black Donnelly’s took over the time slot occupied by ‘Studio 60′, but never garned much attention either in the ratings, or by the press.

While it’s hard to blame NBC for the above mentioned shows not connecting with the audiences, they share some responsibility for the declined ratings of Crossing Jordan.  The network held off on premiering the show until late in the season, a move which hurt the ratings immediately.  They tried to compensate by shuffling the show off to Wednesday, but the results haven’t been any different.

The series finale (6th season finale) will air on May 16.

I understand your frustrations with the show being canceled Kenny, but could you please not resort to using that sort of language and tone?

Hmmm. So what does NBC have against the Irish, cancelling both the Donnellys and Jordan? Sure and in this current litigious universe, it’s some kind of discrimination…

Kenny,
I agree with your frustrations on canceling shows for next season line up – I also understand if you are uncomfortable with your OWN sexuality that it may be dificult to be mature in viewing same sex relationships or physical displays of affection. I am not gay, but have family that is, and I find it not only rude, but ignorant that you have such little self control you have resorted to using outdated, derogatory terms. You seem to stereo type things that you don’t understand, sounds like a classic case of “Homo-Phobia”. I feel sorry for you, you are lucky nobody has called you out, because the way you ‘used your words’ you sound like you are a stereo type yourself: I am assuming that your brother, is also your cousin?!

For the rest of you, have you noticed that all the Networks are showing like 6 episodes of a “new” show, and then 6 of a different, and so forth? I thought a full season was like 26 episodes, and there was only reruns in the summer! I love October Road, and there were only 6 episodes, and whatever happened to the Black Donnely’s – I think “What About Brian” was the only show that seemed to follow that ‘normal’ season episode list. Any thoughts?

I have to admit I was struggling with Studio 60. I was a big fan of the West Wing and had high hopes for the show. After the first few weeks though it got a little dull. The story just didn’t seem to develope well enough. Or fast enough, it seemed like were going to get more drug out unfullfilled love like in W-Wing and I just couldn’t sit through season after season of, he loves me he loves me not. Plus the comedy show which they were supposed to be pretending to be just wasn’t very funny.

It was essentially the same humor as in the West Wing. The reason that worked on the West Wing was because the settign wasn;’t supposed to be funny. The humor wasn’t what we were comign for. We were comign for the Drama and the humor was a bonus. Studio 60 though should have been more about the funny and less about the Drama. If not then why do it around a SNL like setting?

I gave the show another look after takign a few weeks off and was just getting back into it whe it suddenly dissapeared.

It was replaced by The Black donnelleys. I didn’t have any hopes or expectattions for that show. I missed the first episode and saw it online. After I saw it though I was hooked right away. That show was pretty cool. Each week it was buildign and building but it too suddenly dissapeared. It irks me that I’ll never know what the hell happened.

Following heroe’s is a good time slot. Hopefully they’ll bring back somethign I actually want to watch when heroes returns.

Simple minded freaking MORONS….I don’t know how well Crossing Jordan was doing prior to the last season or two where you had to have a TV Guide tatooed to your hand in order to know when the show was going to air but I do know this, every single person I know watched it when it COULD be found so that’s MY Nielsen rating. The freaks running are farm at NBC should be ushered out the door as Jordan isn’t the only show they’ve moved from slot to slot, not showing it for weeks at a time in some instances. Good job MORONS, one more excellent show down the tubes replaced by garbage trash no one has any interest in.
