The season three premiere of Little People, Big World posted all-time series highs in its new Monday night time slot for TLC.
The one-hour premiere (two back-to-back episodes) averaged 3 million viewers, up an amazing 76% over last year’s season premiere of 1.7 million viewers.

Though weaker than previous documentaries from the network, the controversial Discovery Channel documentary about the tomb of Jesus did posted strong overall numbers.

After a weak debut in their respective season openers, Battlestar Galactica and The Dresden Files both showed signs of improvement, likely due to not having to air against the AFC Championship Game.

The new Sci Fi series Dresden Files, as well as the returning Battlestar Galactica had trouble finding an audience Sunday night, as ‘Dresden’ failed to get to a good start and ‘Galactica’ was off from its Friday night average. (more…)

The Colbert/O’Reilly crossover was a ratings hit for both hosts’ shows.
The Colbert Report set a ratings record for the Comedy Central show, hitting 1.641 million total viewers at 11:30 p.m. (1.1 million of which were among the key A18-49 crowd, 930,000 among adults 25-54).

E!’s Live From the Red Carpet special, which ran from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET averaged a 2.07 household rating, beating the 0.7 household rating of rival TV Guide’s program, which featured Joan and Melissa Rivers.
Though the 0.7 rating is low, it is 17% above the performance of the program last year. E!’s coverage (headlined by Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Depandi) was up as well.

The off-network debut of The Sopranos on A&E took out its competition Wednesday night, as the pilot was watched by 4.27M viewers. The second hour (“46 Long”) was watched by 3.45M viewers.

The most recent episode of Top Chef drew 2.2 million total viewers, a new high for the Bravo series which is currently in its second season.

The one-hour commericial free series premiere of Dirt averaged 3.7 million total viewers with 2.4 million of those viewers in the coveted A18-49 demographic from 10:00 to 11:00 PM on Tuesday night.
Dirt’s premiere was solid, but not as strong as some other FX originals when it comes to adults 18-49 (The Shield drew 3M demo viewers in March 2002 and Rescue Me drew 2.5M demo viewers in July 2004). It was, however, stronger than Nip/Tuck’s premiere of 2M demo viewers back in July of 2003.

USA Network wins another week ahead of ESPN, which again places in second.
USA averaged a 2.1 household rating and 2.55 million total viewers to finish just ahead of ESPN’s 1.9 household rating and 2.27 million total viewers.

In a bit of a surprise, USA Network was the top rated ad-supported cable network for the week ending 19th in viewers, jumping ahead of the previous dominant ESPN for the first time since “Monday Night Football” began airing on the sports entertainment network.

ESPN was again the top rated basic cable network in prime time, averaging a 2.9 household rating (2.65 million total households) and 3.49 million total viewers due to the strength of its still dominant football lineup.

ESPN was the number one cable network last week with 3.66M total viewers and a 3.0 household rating in prime time, thanks in large part to its continued success from its football offerings.

On October 31st starting at 11:00 PM and running to 5:00AM on November 1st, Sci Fi aired a special 6 hour live “Ghost Hunters” program.
Ghost Hunters Live revisited the notoriously haunted Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado for a real-time Halloween-night investigation. As the legend goes, Stephen King took up residence at the Stanley while writing his best-selling novel The Shining and the spooky goings on at the hotel reportedly served as the inspiration for his best-selling tome.
The program averaged a 0.9 household rating and 944,000 total viewers, 577,000 P25-54, 698,000 P18-49 from 11:00PM to 5:00AM.
The program registered its largest audience in its first hour; 1.3 household rating and 1.4 million total viewers.
Those ratings in the time period (11:00PM to 5:00AM) registered gains of 80% in households, 119% in P25-54, 174% in P18-49 and 107% in total viewers.
It was the highest rated 11:00PM to 5:00AM period since January of 2002.

The matchup between the Giants and Cowboys was watched by 11,807,000 households, a 12.8 rating, 16.03M viewers, making it the most watched television program in cable broadcast history.
The previous holder was a 1993 “Larry King Live” in which then VP Al Gore debated Ross Perot over NAFTA (11,174,000 households).

ESPN once again was the top cable network last week, averaging a 2.6 household rating and 3.15 million total viewers in prime time, thanks in large part to its “Monday Night Football” and “Saturday Night NCAA” presentations. For the week, ESPN was #1 in all three core demos, averaging 1.55M A18-49, 1.57M A25-54 and 747,000 A18-34.

The season finale of Bravo’s “Project Runaway” was the most watched cable program on the night Wednesday, drawing an impressive 4.6 HH Rating and 5.40M total viewers, most ever for the network in households and viewers.
The season finale also attracted 3.44M viewers in the key A18-49 demo.

Growing 27% over its season one premiere, “Little People, Big World” on TLC averaged about 1.70 million viewers over its hour time-slot.
Growth was also present in A18-49, where the series grew about 24% to 857,000 viewers.
