Sony’s new release The Messengers won a close weekend, ahead of Universal’s Because I Said So, taking in $14.71M from 2,528 theaters.

Only three new releases made their way into the top 20 DVD charts this past week, with all three coming in the top five. Premiering at number one was Saw III, followed by The Guardian at number three and Invincible Iron Man at number four.

Former Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Michael Irvin leads the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2007, along with running back Thurman Thomas, offensive lineman Bruce Mathews, defensive back Roger Wehrli, tight end Charlie Sanders and guard Gene Hickerson (both of which were the two nominees of the veterans’ committee).

CBS takes first place for the evening. The nights highest rated and most watched program was Numb3rs, while Ghost Whisperer came away with the top spot among adults 18-49. The CW gets great results from Smackdown.

After a weak debut in their respective season openers, Battlestar Galactica and The Dresden Files both showed signs of improvement, likely due to not having to air against the AFC Championship Game.

According to CinemaBlend, director Chris Nolan of Batman: The Dark Knight is interested in Emily Blunt (Devil Wears Prada) for the role of Rachel Dawes (who was portrayed by Katie Holmes in Batman Begins).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, film studio Warner Bros. has acquired a new script by writers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland in “a pre-emptive measure aimed at taking the spec off the market to protect itself against the possibility that any similarities between the scripts could be fodder for future legal action.”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to Harold & Kumar: Go to White Castle has actors David Krumholtz, Neil Patrick Harris, Rob Corddry, Christopher Meloni, Ed Helms, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Paula Garces, Jack Conley, Roger Bar, Danneel Harris and Eric Winter all signed up to star in the sequel along with John Cho (Harold) and Kal Penn (Kumar).
