In an interview with Empire Magazine, Christoper Lee (pictured right in character as Saruman from The Lord of the Rings trilogy) said that he hopes he’ll be returning to play Saruman again in Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of The Hobbit.  Saruman was never featured in the prequel book, but the two-film adaptation could rely on extra material not necessarily found in The Hobbit.  Lee is a fan of the books, and knows his stuff.  Read his thoughts here.

Dennis Hopper has joined the cast of Crash, Starz Entertainment’s first original drama series.  The 13-episode one-hour series has already started production.  Hopper will play “Ben”, a veteran, maverick music producer looking for his last big score. [ComingSoon.net]

UK residents are already able to watch any show that’s aired on BBC over the last 7 days using the network’s iPlayer software, but they’ll soon be able to watch a live stream of BBC One content on the internet.  The service will be available in the coming months, only to viewers in the UK.  There will be no increase in the annual license fee to watch television in the UK (currently £139.50).

Michelle Obama, wife of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, will be a guest host on The View on June 18th.  The ABC daytime talk show had invited her to be a guest on the show this month, but Michelle requested to guest-host like Cindy McCain (wife of presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain) did in April of this year.  Guests have not been announced for the show yet.  Cindy McCain interviewed CBS late night host Craig Ferguson when she hosted in April.

Cast of “Simpsons” Signed through 20th season June 4, 2008 11:50 am

The cast of The Simpsons has signed a four-year deal, ensuring that the long-running series will remain on the air through at least its 20th season.

Production was delayed for several months as the voice cast negotiated with 20th Century Fox TV for new contracts. Variety reports that the stars’ salaries has increased to about $400,000 an episode, up from around the mid-$300,000 range.

Most of the key cast returned to the cast over the weekend, so because of the late start 20 episodes of the show will be produced this year instead of the usual 22.

The fourth season finale of Lost powered ABC to comfortable win last night, but it wasn’t all good news, as the show was off by 1.66M viewers (12%) and 17% among adults 18-49 from last season’s finale.

Elsewhere on the evening, Fox held steady in second place with a strong showing from So You Think You Can Dance?, while week two of Last Comic Standing fared very poorly, off by 25% among viewers and adults 18-49, allowing CBS to sneak into third place with a slate of repeats.

Continue reading for my full analysis of the night’s programs which includes a season four chart for Lost, detailing the show’s severe loss of viewership over the season.

Like last year, I’ve decided to create a programming guide for the fall season.  My 1st edition for Fall 2008 is online now.  This year’s edition is a little less bloated than last year’s and I’ve done it in a different, more simple style.  It also only has premiere dates for the NBC shows.  That will of course be remedied once the other networks make their announcements.  I also plan to add a few other things, such as synopses for the new shows, in future updates.

You can download the file here (Excel .xls file) or click the above image.
