The new Sci Fi series Dresden Files, as well as the returning Battlestar Galactica had trouble finding an audience Sunday night, as ‘Dresden’ failed to get to a good start and ‘Galactica’ was off from its Friday night average. (more…)

CBS’s coverage of the AFC Championship Game secures a first place win for the evening among all main categories. The game between the Patriots and the Colts drew over 43M viewers in primetime. CBS outrated the combined totals of all four of its competitors. (more…)

NBC takes the Friday night crown among all main categories, as its main competition (CBS) chooses to schedule repeats. 1 vs. 100 was the nights most watched program, while Las Vegas was the top rated show among adults 18-49.

ABC and CBS have strong nights, as they tie among total households, but CBS comes atop among total viewers, while ABC takes the A18-49 crown. Grey’s Anatomy was the nights highest rated and most watched program.
Smallville and ‘Til Death also had solid nights (with Smallville’s numbers the more impressive of the two considering the network it’s on) passing the 5M mark, and Ugly Betty got a post-Golden Globe win bump. (more…)

American Idol nearly matches the ratings performance from the day before, ahead of last year’s first week numbers, to give Fox another huge ratings win last night. Fox drew more total households, viewers and adults 18-49 than the rest of the four networks combined.

Though ratings have declined for recent installments of CBS’s veteran reality series Survivor, the network has decided to order two more seasons of the show.
The 15th and 16th editions of the series will run during the 2007-08 TV season.

E!’s Live From the Red Carpet special, which ran from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET averaged a 2.07 household rating, beating the 0.7 household rating of rival TV Guide’s program, which featured Joan and Melissa Rivers.
Though the 0.7 rating is low, it is 17% above the performance of the program last year. E!’s coverage (headlined by Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Depandi) was up as well.

NBC’s coverage of the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards propels the network to a first place finish for the evening. Day 2 of the Season Six premiere of 24 stays even from the day before, and was on par with how the show started off last season.

ESPN has quietly canceled Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith.
The late-night series was introduced August 2005 and aired at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, but after a half year of low ratings (the series averaged a dreadfully low 0.1 household rating) it was moved in January of last year to 11:00 p.m.

The return of Grey’s Anatomy (the nights highest rated and most watched program) propelled ABC to an easy Thursday night win. NBC comedies My Name Is Earl and The Office perform very strongly among adults 18-49. (more…)

The off-network debut of The Sopranos on A&E took out its competition Wednesday night, as the pilot was watched by 4.27M viewers. The second hour (“46 Long”) was watched by 3.45M viewers.

Fox’s coverage of the BCS National Championship game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Florida Gators gave the network an easy win, taking care of its competition much like Florida took care of theirs. Still though, the game was down from last season’s BCS game.

The most recent episode of Top Chef drew 2.2 million total viewers, a new high for the Bravo series which is currently in its second season.

ABC’s annual New Year’s Eve special was once again the top draw for viewers during the countdown to 2007.
The entire program, which ran from 11:35 PM to 1:06 AM drew an average 15.01 million total viewers, with 7.16 million Adults 18-49.
It defeated the combined audiences of those watching the NBC and Fox specials.

Fox takes the night with its best ratings yet from a BCS bowl. Friday Night Lights doesn’t improve in its new timeslot, while the premieres of Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency perform only decently. Beauty and the Geek does very well for The CW.

NBC’s returning lineup outdrew Fox’s BCS Orange Bowl matchup between Louisville and Wake Forest. A strong night overall for NBC is led by the nights highest rated program in all main categories; Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
