Broadcast TV Ratings for Monday, January 8, 2007 January 9, 2007 7:27 pm

Fox’s coverage of the BCS National Championship game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Florida Gators gave the network an easy win, taking care of its competition much like Florida took care of theirs. Still though, the game was down from last season’s BCS game.

Fox finished in first place for the evening with a 16.0/24 household rating, 26.36 million total viewers and a 9.5/22 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 8:00 PM: According to preliminary fast nationals, Fox’s coverage (which includes all of primtime — 8-11 p.m. ET) of the BCS Championship Game: Florida vs. Ohio State (16.0/24 HH rating, 25.36M viewers, 9.5/22 A18-49 rating) gave Fox an easy win for the evening. Ratings were, however, down from last year’s comparable game between USC and Texas (numbers below). It’s still an impressive number and above the numbers for 2005 (21.4M viewers).

CBS followed in second place for the evening with a 8.3/12 household rating, 12.49 million total viewers and a 4.2/10 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM: CBS began a the evening with new episodes of How I Met Your Mother (5.6/8 HH rating, 8.42M viewers, 3.1/8 A18-49 rating) and The Class (5.1/7 HH rating, 7.76M viewers, 2.9/7 A18-49 rating). It was the weakest hour for CBS, as the network struggles to find a compatible lead-in for Two and a Half Men.

      • Households – 5.6/9 to 5.6/8
      • Viewers – 8.66M to 8.42M
      • A18-49 – 3.0/9 to 3.1/8
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (The Class — 12/11/2006):
      • Households – 5.5/8 to 5.1/7
      • Viewers – 8.70M to 7.76M
      • A18-49 – 3.1/8 to 2.9/7
  • 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM: Two and a Half Men (9.6/14 HH rating, 14.81M viewers, 4.7/11 A18-49 rating) and The New Adventures of Old Christine (8.1/12 HH rating, 12.15M viewers, 4.1/9 A18-49 rating) put up strong competition to Fox’s BCS game and retention rates for ‘Old Christine’ out of Two and a Half Men were stronger than they have been in the past (84% among households, 82% among viewers and 87% among adults 18-49).
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (Two and a Half Men — 12/11/2006):
      • Households – 10.0/15 to 9.6/14
      • Viewers – 15.69M to 14.81M
      • A18-49 – 5.1/13 to 4.7/11
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (The New Adventures of Old Christine — 12/11/2006):
      • Households – 7.8/12 to 8.1/12
      • Viewers – 11.96M to 12.15M
      • A18-49 – 4.1/11 to 4.1/9
  • 10:00 PM: CBS then ended the evening with an original episode of CSI: Miami (10.6/17 HH rating, 15.81M viewers, 5.1/12 A18-49 rating) which secured a second place finish for the eveing as the program grew out of the ‘Old Christine’ by 3.66M viewers, 31% among households and 24% among adults 18-49.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (12/11/2006):
      • Households – 10.5/17 to 10.6/17
      • Viewers – 15.99M to 15.81M
      • A18-49 – 4.9/13 to 5.1/12

NBC followed in third place for the evening with a 5.2/8 household rating, 8.05 million total viewers but was fourth among adults 18-49 with a 2.6/6 rating in the demo.

  • Last Week:
    • 3.3/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 5.11M viewers [#4]
    • 1.9/5 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • 8:00 PM: Deal or No Deal (8.9/13 HH rating, 14.02M viewers, 3.9/10 A18-49 rating) was a solid second place for NBC and the networks only good news for the night.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (12/25/2006):
      • Households – 8.9/17 to 8.9/13
      • Viewers – 16.43M to 14.02M
      • A18-49 – 5.3/15 to 3.9/10
  • 9:00 to 11:00 PM: Back-to-back repeat episodes of Heroes (3.6/5 HH rating, 5.06M viewers, 1.9/4 A18-49 rating) were merely just there unable to get much of an effective sampling. These types of shows just don’t repeat well.

ABC finished in fourth place for the evening with a 4.7/7 household rating and 6.95 million total viewers but was third among adults 18-49 with a 2.8/7 rating.

    • 5.8/9 HH rating [#4]
    • 9.20M viewers [#4]
    • 3.4/8 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • 8:00 PM: Starting off another subpar evening for the alphabet was Wife Swap (5.1/7 HH rating, 7.99M viewers, 3.3/8 A18-49 rating). About the only good news was a more decent performance among adults 18-49.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (12/4/2006):
      • Households – 5.0/8 to 5.1/7
      • Viewers – 7.86M to 7.99M
      • A18-49 – 3.0/8 to 3.3/8
  • 9:00 PM: Next up for ABC was Supernanny (5.5/8 HH rating, 8.12M viewers, 3.2/7 A18-49 rating), which did manage to perk up some. It was ABC’s highest rated program for the night among households and viewers.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (12/18/2006):
      • Households – 4.3/7 to 5.5/8
      • Viewers – 6.50M to 8.12M
      • A18-49 – 2.4/6 to 3.2/7
  • 10:00 PM: What about Brian (3.4/5 HH rating, 4.74M viewers, 2.0/5 A18-49 rating) struggled out of Supernanny, dipping 3.38M viewers and 38% among households and adults 18-49.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (12/18/2006):
      • Households – 3.3/6 to 3.4/5
      • Viewers – 4.58M to 4.74M
      • A18-49 – 2.0/5 to 2.0/5

 

The CW was left for a fifth place finish with a 1.4/2 household rating, 2.05 million total viewers and a fifth place 0.8/2 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • 1.6/2 HH rating [#5]
    • 2.40M viewers [#5]
    • 0.9/2 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • 8:00 and 8:30 PM: Repeats of “Everybody Hates Chris” (1.6/2 HH rating, 2.42M viewers, 0.9/2 A18-49 rating) and “All of Us” (1.5/2 HH rating, 2.10M viewers, 0.8/2 A18-49 rating) were hardly noticeable.
  • 9:00 and 9:30 PM: And repeats of “Girlfriends” (1.3/2 HH rating, 1.75M viewers, 0.7/2 A18-49 rating) and “The Game” (1.2/2 HH rating, 1.51M viewers, 0.6/2 A18-49 rating) fell even lower.
