Though HBO was quick to cancel low-rated drama John From Cincinnati (related story here), the premium cable network has decided to go ahead with another season of the similarly low-rated comedy Flight of the Conchords. HBO also announced a renewal for their long-running comedy/drama Entourage.

Variety is reporting that Fox is in the planning stages of remaking the classic 1966 science fiction film Fantastic Voyage and they’ve hired director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day and Day After Tomorrow) direct it.

Casting is now underway for The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian, a sequel (set before) to the Mummy Returns spin-off Scorpion King. The prequel will not be starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

IESB reported a few days ago that New Line Cinema was close to announcing a director for two of their upcoming projects (Gears of War and the Escape from New York remake). Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that New Line is indeed in negotiations with Len Wiseman to direct at least one of the projects; the Escape from New York remake.

Weeds and Californication got the new comedy season for Showtime off to a great start, with Weeds eclipsing its previous record for most viewed comedy series on the network, and Californication benefiting from that extra boos of viewers.

When Masters of Science Fiction, the short-run science fiction series on ABC, premiered on Saturday, August 5th, ABC seemed to be right it showing little faith in the series, as it premiered to very low ratings. But week 2 saw a solid increase for the series, one that could make ABC take notice if the trend continues.

Nickelodeon today announced that two of their MTVN networks: NOGGIN and The N (which currently share an space on the same station) will split into two separate 24-hour services, effective this coming December 31, 2007.
