Brian Azzarello recently spoke to WB about the upcoming straight-to-video release of Batman: Gotham Knight. Azzarello wrote the fifth segment in the film entitled “Working Through Pain”.  His segment takes on a more non-violent direction, a different path from the movie’s other segments. Check out Azzarello’s thoughts on the film, plus several new photos, after the jump.

CBS took households and viewers on the strength of CSI (the night’s most watched program) and Without a Trace, while ABC managed to just barely take first place among adults 18-49 thanks to that demo’s most watched program last night Grey’s Anatomy and a solid performance by Lost. ABC Adds Two Hours to Lost May 9, 2008 12:50 pm

The final two seasons of Lost will be two episodes longer.  The 2009 and 2010 seasons of the series will be 17 hours each, not 16 as was originally planned.  When the network picked the show up for three more seasons, it was for 48 hours (16-16-16), but because the writer’s strike knocked out three hours out of the current season, the network is compensating for that loss.  ABC recently added an additional hour to Part 2 of the season finale that airs on May 29th.

Universal Pictures has signed Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy director Gore Verbinski to direct and produce an adaptation of the popular video game Bioshock, Variety reports.  John Logan (Aviator) is in talks to write the film’s screenplay.

Lionsgate has picked up the rights to the comic book Deal With the Devil.  The studio has set writer Kyle Ward to adapt the comic book for film.  The comic’s story, published by Alias, centers on a Chicago detective who is forced to take on an unlikely new partner: the original serial killer. Ahead of its debut tomorrow, Yahoo! Movies has premiered online the first seven minutes of the Wachowski Bros. live-action adaptation of Speed Racer. IGN is reporting that Isabel Lucas (pictured right) has been cast in the role of Alice in the sequel to Transformers.  Meanwhile, Michael Bay posted on his personal blog that “Teresa Palmer was not considered for a role”, counter to an initial report that said the actress was in negotiations for a part in the film.

Esai Morales (Jericho) has joined the cast of SCI FI Channel’s two-hour Caprica pilot.  The series is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica.  Morales will play Joseph Adama, the father of William Adama (played by Edward James Olmos in BSG). [THR]

Marvel just recently announced a June 4, 2010 release date for Thor, but it looks like the film will be without director Matthew Vaughn.  According to a report at THR, Vaughn is no longer attached to direct the film because his holding deal expired in December.

The first photo of Josh Brolin as George W. Bush and Elizabeth Banks as First Lady Laura Bush has been released.  The pair are featured on the cover of this week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly for their new film W. The film co-stars Thandie Newton as National Security Advisor turned secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair, Rob Corddry as Ari Fleischer, James Cromwell as George Herbert Walker Bush, Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush and Jeffrey Wright as General Colin Powell.  Check out the photo after the jump. DreamWorks Animation has released the second full trailer for their upcoming animated comedy Kung Fu Panda.  The film, featuring the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan and Ian McShane, hits theaters on June 6th.  Check out the trailer after the jump.

Several new photos from Stephen Sommer’s live-action adaptation of G.I. Joe have been released.  This latest batch showcases almost the entire cast: Destro (Chris Eccleston), Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee), Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Breaker (Saïd Taghmaoui), The Baroness (Sienna Miller) , General Hawk (Dennis Quaid), Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans).  Check them out after the jump.  G.I. AMC’s second original series Breaking Bad is coming back for another season.  The series has received a 13 episode second season pickup. According to numbers released by Nielsen, the series averaged a 0.9 household rating or 825,000 households, an improvement on the network’s 2007 primetime averages by 4% and 5%, respectively.

CNN Tops Cable Nets for IN, NC Primary Coverage May 7, 2008 6:42 pm

CNN’s coverage of the Indiana and North Carolina primaries last night topped Fox News and MSNBC, drawing an average audience of 2.65 million viewers from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. ET, 19% stronger than its nearest competitor Fox News.  Among the key news demo adults 25-54, the results were even better for CNN.  The network drew 1.04 million A25-54, 35% stronger than second place MSNBC and 44% stronger than third place Fox News.  Full details after the jump.

An 8:00 pm Dancing With the Stars special cut into American Idol’s dominance, causing a drop in week-to-week viewership for ‘Idol’ of a significant 3.84 million viewers/15% and 9% among adults 18-49.  It was the weakest performance of the season thus far for a Tuesday edition of American Idol.  Continue reading for a complete look at last night’s ratings.

Lionsgate has pushed up the release date of Frank Miller’s adaptation of Will Esiner’s The Spirit from January 16, 2009 to December 25, 2008.  The film will now go up against Adam Sandler’s comedy Bedtime Stories and the adaptations of The Time Traveler’s Wife and Marley & Me.  Neither film is expected to negatively affect The Spirit, as the film will be going after a completely different audience.

LucasFilm has released the theatrical one-sheet movie poster for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated feature film set to release on August 15th.  LucasFilm also announced that the movie trailer for the film will premiere on Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, CNN, and Boomerang at 7:58 p.m. in all U.S. time zones on Thursday, May 8th.  The trailer will also be attached to prints of Speed Racer, which releases on Friday.  Photos after the jump.

Last week I reported on some casting news, revealing that Jonah Hill was in negotiations to play a role in next summer’s Transformers 2.  Well, that’s no longer the case.  EW is reporting that negotiations between the actor and DreamWorks have broken down, and that the studio has now moved on to other choices.

Two pilots from the SCI FI channel have added cast members to their lineup.  Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly have been cast to star in the two-hour dramedy pilot Warehouse 13, while Paula Malcomson has been cast as the female lead in Caprica, the networks prequel series to Battlestar Galactica.

With the news on Monday that Marvel Studios is planning to bring back Captain America in a film set to release on May 6, 2011 (The First Avenger: Captain America), sources are reporting that the studio is already looking to cast the lead.  According to CinemaBlend, Mathew McConaughey may be one of Marvel’s leading candidates to take on the role of Captain America.  Well, this should get interesting.  Photo source: CinemaBlend

Rapper Common has signed on to co-star in Warner Bros’ Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.  Common joins Christian Bale and Sam Worthington who have already signed onto the film.  The film will be directed by McG, from a script by John D Brancato & Michael Ferris and Paul Haggis and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2009.

Sorry Men in Trees fans.  TVGuide is reporting that ABC has cut down the sophomore drama.  The site reports they were informed of the news by series creator Jenny Bicks, who herself was informed of the cancellation decision late last week: “I am really proud of the work we did on MIT,” she tells me. “A huge thank you to our supportive fans.”
