Just five episodes in to the new season, Lifetime has renewed its hit drama series Army Wives for a third season. The move is in response to continued strong ratings, especially among the networks key demographics of women 18-49 and women 25-54, ranking No. 1 in both demographics across all ad supported basic cable programming.
Since premiering last year, ‘Army Wives’ has become a game-changer for Lifetime. Announcing this early renewal is a testament to the enormous faith and confidence we have in this show and its incredibly talented cast and production team, Lifetime CEO Andrea Wong said. “‘Army Wives’ exemplifies what Lifetime is all about—friendship, compassion, humor and heart. We are very proud of both its water cooler resonance and its success.
18 episodes have been ordered for the third season, which will begin airing in 2009. Army Wives airs Sunday nights on Lifetime at 10pm. The press release follows after the jump.

We’re about to find out if the American public, who annually dishes out billions upon billions of dollars in weight loss programs, are interested in watching a series revolving around the industry. HBO has greenlit a pilot called Fat Sells. The show is centered on a head of a weight loss company, who’s life starts to go down hill after he gets investigated by the FDA for his company’s weight loss claims. “Mad Men” Creator Has a 10-year (Only Four More Seasons) Plan For the Show July 10, 2008 5:30 pm
Posted by Rosario T. Calabria in AMC, Mad Men, News, Television.add a comment
At the TCA panel for Mad Men, the show’s creator, Matt Weiner, revealed that the series will air for just four more years. The plan is for the show to jump into the future approximately two years every season, which means that the story will end in 1969. It’s certainly going to be quite interesting to see the transformation of the show over the coming seasons as it exits the 50’s and enters the 1960’s.
Mad Men joins a list of recent series setting end points for their runs (Battlestar Galactica-4 years and Lost-6 years to name a few.) Though I would love if my favorite show could go on and on, I understand and agree with this policy. I think all shows would improve dramatically if their respective creators have a diagram of where it begins and where it ends.
Season two of Mad Men premieres on AMC July 27th. The season one DVD set (which is terrific by the way, and absolutely LOADED with extras) is available to own on DVD and Blu-ray Hi-Def.

Those holding out hope for a Sopranos movie better move on to something else. Director-actor Peter Bogdanovich was asked by the Orlando Sentinel about the possibility and he said it’s not going to happen:
I spoke to David Chase a month ago, and he said no. He said he thought about it, and he can’t figure out a way to do it. So I don’t think it will ever happen. I don’t think you can ever say never, but my hunch is it won’t happen.

Jon Favreau Will Return to Direct “Iron Man 2” July 10, 2008 3:34 am

Jon Favreau will be returning to direct the sequel to Iron Man.
Though I personally didn’t think it was ever really in doubt, a while back it was being reported that Marvel was “lowballing” Favreau in their offer for him to direct a sequel. Eventually, it was learned that Marvel Studios offerered Favreau a contract that was “definitely” larger than his wage for the first film. Well, it looks like all is now well.
Here’s what Nikki Finke, who has the exclusive, posted over at her site Deadline Hollywood Daily:
It’s not officially announced yet, but I’m told that Marvel Studios and Iron Man director Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so he’s on board.)
Iron Man 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on April 30, 2010.

As part of Paramount’s promotion of August’s Tropic Thunder, the studio has released a trailer and poster (pictured right) for Rain of Madness, a mockumentary of sorts chronicling the fictional movie. Here’s the tagline:
“German born documentarian, Jan Jürgen blows the lid off Hollywood, exposing the frenzy, the insanity and the madness surrounding the filming of ” Tropic Thunder”. One of the most ambitious war films ever made.”
Check out the trailer and poster after the jump.
Tropic Thunder hits theaters on August 15, 2008.

If you still had any doubt about how big The Dark Knight’s opening weekend haul is looking to be, check out this bit of news. The New York Times is reporting that some IMAX theaters are now offering 6 a.m. showings of The Dark Knight. Yeah, that’s right, showings at 6 in the morning! So far, theaters in Chicago, San Diego and Minnesota are participating.
I’m cool with the midnight screenings, but is there really a demand out there for watching a movie at 6am?
The Dark Knight opens (hopefully huge) on July 18, 2008 in conventional and IMAX theaters.

Just eight more days folks! That’s all that stands between now and the release of The Dark Knight. With that in mind, I thought it might be a good idea to take a quick sampling of what the critics, the few so far, who have seen The Dark Knight are saying about it.
