heroestitle-81908Pushing Daisies co-creator Bryan Fuller, who worked on the first half of season one of Heroes, said that if ABC passes on a full season or third season renewal of his struggling series, he would be willing to return to Heroes.

“I am exclusive to Daisies through the delivery of the 13th episode of our 13-episode order, which will be mid-January,” says Fuller. “If Daisies isn’t picked up by then, I will definitely be going back to play with my friends at Heroes.”

cwlogo-513The CW and Warner Bros. have been forced to scrap their plans for The Graysons, a series that the network was planning which was to follow the life and story of Dick Grayson before he became Batman’s sidekick Robin.  WB Pictures president Jeff Robinev changed his mind in recent days and according to Variety, wants Warner Bros. to “rethink its DC Comics strategy”:

“The studio has opted not to go forward with the development of ‘The Graysons’ at this time as the concept doesn’t fit the current strategy for the Batman franchise,” the studio said in a statement. “Warner Bros. Television is currently working on several replacement options for the CW.”

Also turns out that The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan was never consulted and was uncomfortable with having a TV show related to the Batman franchise on the air, although the decision rested solely with Robinev.

dollhouse-102708Fox’s updated schedule has bad news for Joss Whedon fans.  The network has pushed back the debut of Whedon’s new series Dollhouse from January to Friday, February 13, 2009.  The one-month delay is obviously concerning, but the move to Friday nights into the “time slot of death” is even more so.  The network also isn’t giving the show much help in terms of a lead-in, deciding to move the struggling Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles to Friday nights at 8pm.

Production delays are also still an issue, with the LA Times reporting that production on the show’s seventh episode may have to be delayed due to issues with the script.

Meanwhile, Fox is showing more confidence with Fringe, deciding to give the show a boost from American Idol, which will lead into it.

threestooges-111108MGM has revived Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s Three Stooges project and have set a November 20, 2009 release date for the film.  That puts the film up against Sherlock Holmes, the animated film Planet 51 and Old Dogs.  According to Variety, the $45 million comedy will be either PG or PG-13 and feature the slap-happy comedy that was prevalent in the Stooges shorts:

“It’s not a biopic. It takes place in present day, and they look, dress and sound exactly like the Stooges,” Peter Farrelly told Daily Variety. “When the economy started turning, we felt like the world could use a Stooges slapfest. Bobby and I haven’t done a real physical comedy in a while, and it’s the most exciting thing we could think of now, to have people go to the movie, see some great slapstick fun family humor.”

“We know this is extremely difficult to pull off; we realize some Stooges fans will be upset no matter what we do,” Farrelly said. “We love the Stooges and honor their memory, and we don’t want them to disappear. We hope that next Thanksgiving, dads will introduce their kids to the Stooges and create a new generation of knuckleheads.”

Sony and Paramount to Partner for Tintin November 2, 2008 4:03 pm

Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures are in talks to co-finance the digital 3-D Tintin series from directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson.  The series is based on the Belgian comics of the same name.

Details, via Variety:

After resolving the Paramount-DreamWorks divorce, putting together a studio deal for “Tintin” was next on Spielberg’s agenda. After Universal balked at partnering on the first installment, which Spielberg will direct, Paramount offered to fully back the first movie with a reduced backend at $135 million for the two gross participants. When the filmmakers held out for a better deal, a partner became a viable alternative.

The original deal called for there to be a three-film deal, but it looks like this will now be a two-picture deal, with Spielberg to direct the first film (still expected by 2010) and Jackson to direct the sequel.

Huge $8M Opening Day for Quantum of Solace in the U.K. November 2, 2008 3:54 pm

The latest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, opened to large audiences on Friday in the U.K., taking in $8 million (£4.94 million) in its first day of release.  That haul, which was made possible by lots of advance ticket sales, makes ‘Solace’ the biggest Friday opening of all time in the U.K.

The previous Friday best was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which earned $6.5M (£4 million).  The previous Bond film, Casino Royale, did $4.7 million inn its opening Friday, but unlike ‘Solace’, it had the benefit of Thursday previews.  The film has a good shot at surpassing pre-release expections, which pegged the film doing  $21 million (£13 million) over the weekend.

Quantum of Solace hits theaters in the US on November 14th.

“American Dad” Renewed for Fifth Season November 2, 2008 2:42 pm

While Fox opted not to renew its long-running animated series King of the Hill (related article here), the network has decided to give a greenlight for a fifth season of American Dad.  Executive producers Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman have also signed new overall deals with 20th Century Fox TV:

“It was one of our goals going into the summer to make sure their services were secured,” said 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden. “The show has evolved creatively under their leadership. And when you find a tentpole player like Seth, one of the critical elements in supporting their companies is locking up the services of the people they depend on, they trust.”

Production on the currently running fourth season of American Dad is coming to a close, just as the writing team is starting to break stories for the show’s fifth season.
