NBC has pulled the plug on two of its shows: freshman drama My Own Worst Enemy and second-year series Lipstick Jungle, according to THR. NBC had high hopes for ‘Enemy’, but the series got out of the gate poorly and sunk to a very poor 1.8 A18-49 rating and 4.3 million total viewers on Monday night. Lipstick Jungle drew a weaker 3.3 million total viewers and a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 on Friday.
It’s unclear at this time how NBC’s schedule will change. Production continues on the ninth, and final, episode of My Own Worst Enemy (four have aired) while Lipstick Jungle has all 13 episodes of its initial order complete.

Fox Cancels Mad TV November 13, 2008 5:54 pm

After 14 seasons on the air, Mad TV is coming to an end. Fox confirmed on Wednesday that the Saturday night sketch series, which in the past has escaped cancellation, will end its run at the end of this season.
“There’s been great interest in recent years,” said exec producer David Salzman. “We’ve had a number of networks inquire as to whether the show was coming off Fox and saying that they’d be interested. We have not started to talk to them yet, but now is the time to begin those conversations. I think we have real prospects, but you never know, especially given the economy.”
Fox decided to inform the show’s producers of their decision now, rather than later in the season, in order to give them a chance to end the series with a proper sendoff:
“This will give us a proper sendoff, a chance to promote the finale and bring back old cast members,” Salzman said.

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first full photo of the Enterprise from director J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. Click to enlarge. The magazine also spoke with Abrams:
Abrams wanted to take the original TV series Enterprise and the movie franchise Enterprise and fuse them together into a new yet familiar Enterprise. His ambition was a ship that felt very realistic, that could “stand up” to today’s f/x standards—and beyond. “If you’re going to do Star Trek there are many things you cannot change. The Enterprise is a visual touchstone for so many people. So if you’re going to do the Enterprise, it better look like the Enterprise, because otherwise, what are you doing?”

Yahoo! Movies has premiered a new movie poster for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. As always, click to enlarge.
Synopsis
300’s Zack Snyder brings Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ critically acclaimed comic book Watchmen to the big screen, courtesy of DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures. Set in an alternate universe circa 1985, the film’s world is a highly unstable one where a nuclear war is imminent between America and Russia. Superheroes have long been made to hang up their tights thanks to the government-sponsored Keene Act, but that all changes with the death of The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a robust ex-hero commando whose mysterious free fall out a window perks the interest of one of the country’s last remaining vigilantes, Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley). His investigation leads him to caution many of his other former costumed colleagues, including Dr. Manhattan, Night Owl (Patrick Wilson), Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), Sally Jupiter (Carla Gugino), and her daughter, The Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman). Heralded for bringing the world of superheroes into the literary world, Watchmen gave the super-powered mythos a real-life grounding that had been missing in mainstream comics to that point. The film adaptation had languished in one form of development hell or another for years after the book’s release, with various directors on and off the project, including Terry Gilliam, David Hayter, and Darren Aronofsky, as well as Paul Greengrass, whose eventual dismissal stemmed from budget conflicts with the studio.
Watchmen hits theaters on March 6, 2009.
