The University of Notre Dame and NBC Sports have signed a new five-year agreement which will keep Fighting Irish football games on NBC through 2015.  Though terms were not disclosed, the previous five-year deal with Notre Dame cost NBC $45 million.  With the new deal in place, it brings relationship between the network and college to 25 years, going back to 1991.  Quite telling that NBC was so committed to renewing their deal, despite the fact that Notre Dame is coming off their worst record ever (3-9) in 2007. The full press release follows after the jump.

HBO has given an official greenlight for a second season of new drama In Treatment.  The series, which stars Gabriel Byrne as a psychotherapist, revolves around his character’s (Paul Weston) sessions with his patients and his own therapy appointments with fellow therapist Gina Toll (Dianne Wiest).

The show is based on an Israeli TV series of the same name.  It debuted on HBO in January with 43 half-hour episodes on a Monday-Friday basis.  Because of lower than expected ratings, HBO is expected to order 35 episodes for season two.

Michael Hall Talks about the prospects of a Dead Zone movie June 23, 2008 3:40 am

Anthony Michael Hall, who played psychic Johnny Smith on USA Network’s The Dead Zone, told SCI FI Wire that there is talk about doing a movie based on the television series, and that though he isn’t that optimistic of its chances, is open to doing the film.

“There’s talk about it,” Hall told SCI FI Wire.  “I don’t think we had the size of a cult following that, let’s say, The X-Files did. You look at Sex and the City or The X-Files, these movies were done long after the shows pumped out their last episodes.”

Regardless of how things shake out, Hall remains grateful to the opportunites he was given on the show.

“I would certainly be open to the potential for [a reunion feature],” he said. “I would never turn my back on what [the show’s late producer] Michael Piller did for me. He gave me this incredible opportunity. When I look back at [my] career, I view him and John Hughes as almost guardian angels of my career.”

Sorry BSG fans, but you’re going to have to wait a good six months before watching the final half of season four.  Executive producer Ronald D. Moore spoke at a Wednesday night screening of the show’s summer finale (tonight at 10pm eastern on SCI FI) and revealed that the final half of the fourth and final season of BSG probably won’t air until early 2009.  Moore says the reasoning behind the long wait is that they don’t want the show to face off against the new fall slate on the broadcast nets as well as the football and baseball seasons.

Kinda pointless if you ask me, especially considering the show is doing poorly in the ratings as is with little to no major competition.  Additionally, season three aired from October 6, 2006 through March 25, 2007 yet when you compare the first seven weeks (8 episodes) of that run to the first seven weeks of the current season (7 episodes) season four is off by 13%. Note: ratings for episodes 8 and 9 are not yet available.

Season 3 Weeks 1-7: 1.5 average household coverage rating
Season 4 Weeks 1-7: 1.3 average household coverage rating

Note: Network average numbers from the week prior are based on fast national data. Comparison’s from the week prior (or episode-to-episode, etc.) on specific shows are based on final national data. Ratings for the current day are based on fast nationals. (Expect all three scenarios to be the case at all times, unless otherwise noted). The final rating for first-run episodes that aired this evening will be reported the following week. So for example, the final rating for tonight’s episode of “NBA Finals Game 2: Los Angeles Lakers at Boston Celtics” will be reported in next weeks report for Sunday, June 15, 2008.
