mchammer-021809A&E has announced that 1990’s rapper M.C. Hammer, his wife and five children will be the focus of a new 11-episode half-hour reality series set to premiere this year.  The title of the program is, naturally, Hammertime.

Executive producer J.D. Roth says the show will have the feel of an unscripted version of the Huxtable family from The Cosby Show:

“Here’s a dad with five kids, married to the same woman for more than 23 years, living in the same place where he grew up and going to church every Sunday,” Roth said. “He’s had his ups and downs, and it’s what makes him such a character you root for.”

appleiphone-013109AT&T is offering a refurbished 8GB iPhone 3G (black) for just $99.  The provider is also offering the 16GB model in black or white for $199.  That’s a savings of $100 on both models.

To qualify for the offer, you have to sign up for a two-year contract and get a warranty of “at least 90 days”.

It’s a good deal no doubt, but there’s still the issue, at least for me, of the exorbitant monthly cost.  The most basic tier costs $70 + taxes and fees.

ridleyscott-021809In a new interview, director Ridley Scott reveals that changes are afoot with his Nottingham project, including a new name, Robin Hood: (via MTV)

That statement is notable, not only in that those first two projects are moving forward, but that “Nottingham” has now officially been renamed to reflect its lead character. “Oh yes, I think we are just going to call it ‘Robin Hood’,” Scott revealed. “We start in almost 2 months.”

Scott also tried to clarify the confusion over the role — or multiple roles — Russell Crowe will play in the film:

In an attempt to clarify all the confusion from a few months ago about Russell Crowe playing multiple roles, Scott was eager to say that he had changed his mind, and that Crowe will simply portray the famed archer who rises from an unlikely background. “Robin Hood is in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion,” he said of how we’ll find the character early in the film “He is a bowman in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion.”

“[Crowe as both Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham] was an idea so far back, way back when at the time I had this proposed to me, and I read it and thought, ‘I don’t really know what it does for it, but it’s alright’,” Scott recalled of the now-abandoned idea. “It is better to simply have the evolution of a character called Robin Hood, who will come out of a point in the Crusades which is the end.”

USA tells Entertainment Weekly that the show was a “critical and creative success,” adding that the Dec. 12 season finale served as a “satisfying conclusion” to the franchise.
