Kristin over at E! Online is reporting from her sources that it’s looking “likely” that The CW will renew Reaper. Because of its low ratings, a renewal for Reaper wasn’t expected: “If you had asked me a week ago, I would have said no, but there have been a few changes, and now it’s looking like it’ll probably get the green light,” reports an insider source. Krisin also reported that the network will be picking up the new 90210 spinoff.

Eric Stoltz (pictured right) is the latest addition to the cast of the SCI FI Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica. The actor has been cast as Daniel Graystone, a wealthy computer engineer. In other SCI FI channel news, Frances Fisher has signed onto the drama/comedy Eureka for an eight episode run. The actress will play Samantha Thorne, aka “the fixer”. [Sci-Fi Wire]
What’s old is new again as Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Jennie Garth has been cast in the CW’s spinoff. The actress will reprise her role as Keylly Taylor from the original series and will play a guidance counselor at West Beverly Hills High, her alma mater. [THR]

Lionsgate has pushed back the release of the religion documentary Religulous. The film was originally set to release on July 2nd, but will now hit theaters on October 3rd. Religulous is directed by Larry Charles (Borat) and stars comedian/TV show host Bill Maher (Real Time with Bill Maher). Maher gave the following explanation in his reasoning behind doing the film: “I wanted to make a documentary, and I wanted it to be funny. In fact, since there is nothing more ridiculous than the ancient mythological stories that live on as today’s religions, this movie would try to be a real knee-slapper. Unless, of course, you’re religious; then you might not like it.”

You may soon be able to purchase your favorite HBO shows on iTunes. Portfolio is reporting that Time Warner (parent company of HBO) is close to announcing a deal to sell their shows on Apple’s iTunes service, with flexible pricing. The deal marks the first time that Apple has agreed to a separate price structure.

The CW has canceled the low-performing freshman comedy series Aliens in America, according to TV Guide. Despite solid reviews from critics, the series just never managed to find a consistent audience from TV viewers, often dropping below 1 million viewers. There remains just one episode left to be aired. Through 17 original episodes, the show has averaged 1.60M viewers and a 0.6/2 rating/share among adults.

DreamWorks Animation has announced that Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, the sequel to the 2005 hit which grossed over $530 million worldwide, will be released on November 7, 2008. The film will release into both Conventional and IMAX theaters.

The film, which reunites stars David Duchovny (Agent Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Agent Dana Scully), was directed by series creator Chris Cooper and hits theaters on July 25th. Spaced fans rejoice. Fox has turned down a pilot (executive produced by McG) of the adaptation to the cult British TV series. Creators of the original show had voiced their disapproval and concern over the project recently (they had no input).
A three-disc set of the original British TV series will be released on Region 1 DVD for the first time ever this July 22nd. Click here for details on the set.

David Chase, creator of the HBO hit The Sopranos, has signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to write, direct and produce what will be his first feature film. Plot details on the film are being kept under wraps, but Paramount is describing the project as an original drama and that it will not revisit the world of the Mafia.

20th Century Fox has set release dates for two of their upcoming films. The video game adaptation Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li has been dated for February 27, 2009, while a sequel to the surprise 2007 hit Alvin and the Chipmunks has been set for release on March 19, 2010. The first film was released this past December and has grossed over $350 million worldwide.

LatinoReview has two casting scoops. First up, the site reports that John Singleton is singling out Bruce Willis for the role of Col. John “Hannibal” Smith for the upcoming film adaptation of the TV series The A-Team. The site is also reporting that Marvel Studios is looking at Brad Pitt as a possible choice to play Thor in the recently dated movie (June 4, 2010).

Warner Bros. has released the first movie trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The film, a lead-in to the upcoming fall animated cartoon series, hits theaters on August 15th. The trailer features several new and familiar characters, including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala and even Jabba The Hutt. You can check out the trailer in HD or SD here.

Just yesterday, the first photos were released of Josh Brolin as George W. Bush and Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush from Oliver Stone’s George W. Bush biopic W. Plus we got an extensive feature on the film, which you can check out here. Today Lionsgate has set the film’s nationwide release for October 17, 2008. Production on the film hits full speed next week, despite the fact that Dick Cheney’s role is still unfilled. Stone is definitely intent on getting this film out in time before the end of Bush’s term.

Brian Azzarello recently spoke to WB about the upcoming straight-to-video release of Batman: Gotham Knight. Azzarello wrote the fifth segment in the film entitled “Working Through Pain”. The final two seasons of Lost will be two episodes longer. The 2009 and 2010 seasons of the series will be 17 hours each, not 16 as was originally planned. When the network picked the show up for three more seasons, it was for 48 hours (16-16-16), but because the writer’s strike knocked out three hours out of the current season, the network is compensating for that loss. ABC recently added an additional hour to Part 2 of the season finale that airs on May 29th.

Universal Pictures has signed Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy director Gore Verbinski to direct and produce an adaptation of the popular video game Bioshock, Variety reports. John Logan (Aviator) is in talks to write the film’s screenplay.

IGN is reporting that Isabel Lucas (pictured right) has been cast in the role of Alice in the sequel to Transformers. Meanwhile, Michael Bay posted on his personal blog that “Teresa Palmer was not considered for a role”, counter to an initial report that said the actress was in negotiations for a part in the film.
Esai Morales (Jericho) has joined the cast of SCI FI Channel’s two-hour Caprica pilot. The series is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica. Morales will play Joseph Adama, the father of William Adama (played by Edward James Olmos in BSG). [THR]

Marvel just recently announced a June 4, 2010 release date for Thor, but it looks like the film will be without director Matthew Vaughn. According to a report at THR, Vaughn is no longer attached to direct the film because his holding deal expired in December.
