Arsenio Hall has been named the host of MyNetworkTV’s new hour-long comedy clip show, Funniest Moments. The show is scheduled to run Wednesday’s at 9pm starting this fall. Hall also returned to standup comedy for the first time in more than a decade and will be featured in Weinstein Co.s upcoming animated film Igor which hits theaters on September 19th.

Warner Bros. has just released a new trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The film hits theaters on August 15, 2008, and a TV series of the same name will hit Cartoon Network and TNT this fall. Check out the trailer after the jump, and let me know what you think in the comments section below.

The FX Network has canceled the Courteney Cox-starring drama series Dirt, the actress told TV Guide. “It just got canceled,” she said when asked about the prospect of a Season 3 pickup. The actress though remains optimistic about the future, revealing she and her husband David have their own production company and are “developing all kinds of stuff right now. We’ll be producing more stuff together, for sure.”

Despite being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Patrick Swayze has been cleared by his doctors to work, and A&E Network has picked up The Beast, according to THR. The show “centers on an unorthodox but effective FBI veteran (Swayze) who trains a new partner (Fimmel) in his hard-edged and psychologically clever style of agenting while being pursued by a secret Internal Affairs team.”
Production will begin this summer in Chicago, with a tentative premiere set for early 2009. A&E ordered 13 hour-long episodes.

The first set photos of Angels & Demons, the big screen adaptation of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code prequel is now filming in Rome and some set photos have appeared online. Check them out after the jump. Angels & Demons, starring Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, is directed by Ron Howard and hits theaters on May 15, 2009.

Academy Award nominated screenwriter Josh Olson sat down to talk to Warner Bros. about his segment entitled “Have I Got A Story For You?”. The segment tells the story of how chance encounters with Batman by a group of street-wise youngsters leave each kid with a very different impression of the Dark Knight. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Christoper Lee (pictured right in character as Saruman from The Lord of the Rings trilogy) said that he hopes he’ll be returning to play Saruman again in Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of The Hobbit. Saruman was never featured in the prequel book, but the two-film adaptation could rely on extra material not necessarily found in The Hobbit. Lee is a fan of the books, and knows his stuff. Dennis Hopper has joined the cast of Crash, Starz Entertainment’s first original drama series. The 13-episode one-hour series has already started production. Hopper will play “Ben”, a veteran, maverick music producer looking for his last big score. [ComingSoon.net]

Fox has unveiled premiere dates for their fall 2008 schedule of programs. The fall season for Fox begins Monday, September 1st with the two-hour season premiere of Prison Break and continues through Sunday, September 29th with the premiere of the network’s comedy block of programming (The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy, and American Dad). UK residents are already able to watch any show that’s aired on BBC over the last 7 days using the network’s iPlayer software, but they’ll soon be able to watch a live stream of BBC One content on the internet. The service will be available in the coming months, only to viewers in the UK. There will be no increase in the annual license fee to watch television in the UK (currently £139.50).

CBS will air a special season 1 repeat airing of the TBS comedy series The Bill Engvall Show on their network this Monday (June 9th), according to TV Guide. In exchange for giving ‘Bill’ the extra exposure, CBS will get to plug its fall line-up on TBS later in the summer. Season Two of the series begins its run Wednesday, June 12th on TBS.

Michelle Obama, wife of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, will be a guest host on The View on June 18th. The ABC daytime talk show had invited her to be a guest on the show this month, but Michelle requested to guest-host like Cindy McCain (wife of presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain) did in April of this year. Guests have not been announced for the show yet. Cindy McCain interviewed CBS late night host Craig Ferguson when she hosted in April.

Showtime has given a 12-episode order to half-hour comedy series The United States of Tara starring Toni Collette (pictured right) as a wife and mother who suffers from disassociative identity disorder. John Corbett also stars as Tara’s husband. The pilot was written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) who will stay on as a writer and one of the series executive producers along with Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

DreamWorks has revealed the name for the Transformers sequel. The film will be called Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. My first reaction to the title is kinda meh, but we’ll see. I’m sure it’ll grow on me eventually. Heck, I eventually came around to Quantum of Solace!

Sorry BSG fans, but you’re going to have to wait a good six months before watching the final half of season four. Executive producer Ronald D. Moore spoke at a Wednesday night screening of the show’s summer finale (tonight at 10pm eastern on SCI FI) and revealed that the final half of the fourth and final season of BSG 






Though TV viewing on the broadcast nets simmers down during the summer months, this is the time of the year when the cable networks start to hit up with new seasons/series. Here’s a highlight of this week’s results.
