Six new releases made their way into the top 20 DVD charts this past week, with five of them in the top 10. Coming in at number one was Gridiron Gang followed by Employee of the Month at number two.
Other new releases in the top 10 were Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning at number three, The Protector at number four and That So Suite Life of Hannah Montana at number eight.
Elsewhere in the top 20 was Undisputed II: Last Man Standing at number 15.

According to preliminary estimates, Fox’s Epic Movie took the top spot on Friday with $6.66M million in its first day of release.

Stomp the Yard held firm day-to-day to narrowly come away as the number one movie of the weekend for the second straight week. It took in $12.29M from 2,051 theaters and its total domestic take currently stands at $40.55M.

Variety is reporting that cartoon house Production I.G. has acquired the rights to Ghost in the Shell from Kodansha for the purpose of making a live-action remake of the popular manga.

Rounding out the top 10 were Pirates of the Caribbean at number four, The Devil Wears Prada at number five, Step Up at number six, Invincible at number seven, Barnyard at number eight, Little Miss Sunshine at number nine and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby at number 10.
Among TV shows on DVD, Martin: Season 1 at number 18 was followed by Family Guy: Vol. 4 at number 19 and The Simpsons: Season 9 at number 20.

After serving three weeks on the top of the charts, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was passed up by a newcomer, Jackass: Number Two.
Other new releases in the top 20 were paced by The Descent at number three, The Black Dahlia at number 10 and The Last Kiss at number 15.
Elsewhere in the top 10 were Step Up at number four, Invincible at number five, The Devil Wears Prada at number six, Little Miss Sunshine at number seven, Barnyard at number eight and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby at number nine.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios announced today their plans for two movies for the Stargate franchise.
The first of the two films is titled Stargate: The Ark of Truth and it will deal with the current running Ori plot, while the second film, Stargate: Continuum, will bring new challenges to the SG-1 crew.
Stars Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Claudia Black, and Michael Shanks are all tapped toreprise their roles from the series in the films.
“‘Stargate SG-1’ is to MGM Television what the ‘James Bond,’ ‘Pink Panther,’ and the ‘Rocky’ franchises are to our feature film unit,” said Charles Cohen, senior executive VP of MGM. “We are committed to continuing to release new SG-I content and its “Stargate Atlantis” spin-off, and we’re also steadfast in our dedication to extending the franchise. ‘Stargate’ is an indelible brand for MGM and we will support it well into the future.”

NBCU has announced that Chiller, a 24-hour horror channel, will be launched by the corp. on March 1 on DirecTV, which NBCU already has a distribution agreement with. Chiller will feature classic horror films and TV programs from the NBCU vault.

Ever since writer-director Stephen Sommers announced he would not helm the third installment of the Mummy franchise, Universal has been looking for a replacement for The Mummy 3.
According to TMZ, it appears they’ve found their man: “Look for Universal to make the formal offer to Cohen sometime later this week,” TMZ.com said.
Cohen’s credits include Dragonheart, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Daylight and The Fast and the Furious.
Speaking of the movie itself, stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are both rumored to be interested in reprising their roles.

Microsoft Corp. said that they expect to introduce video games for its Zune music player within 18 months, in an effort to stay on equal footing with Apple Inc.’s iPod.
The Zune hasn’t had much success against the Apple iPod, selling in the “..hundreds of thousands”, according to Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices division of Microsoft.
