bruno-033009Sascha Baron Cohen’s latest film, Bruno, has received a NC-17 rating. The Wrap reports that the film got the rating, in part, due to a scene where the Baron’s character “appears to have anal sex with a man on camera. In another, the actor goes on a hunting trip and sneaks naked into the tent of one of the fellow hunters, an unsuspecting non-actor.”

This actually isn’t much of a surprise because Cohen’s last film, 20th Century Fox’s Borat, initially earned an NC-17 rating as well.  That film was later re-edited and got the necessary R-Rating, en route to an  impressive $128.9M domestically ($261.6M worldwide) on a budget of just $18M.

Bruno, from Universal Pictures, hits theaters on July 7, 2009.

avatar-032109The latest issue of TIME Magazine features an article about 3-D films and the reporter got to see some footage from James Cameron’s upcoming 3-D epic Avatar.  Here’s a small excerpt from the article:

I couldn’t tell what was real and what was animated–even knowing that the 9-ft.-tall blue, dappled dude couldn’t possibly be real. The scenes were so startling and absorbing that the following morning, I had the peculiar sensation of wanting to return there, as if Pandora were real.

Sign me up!  I’m really looking forward to the film.  Which reminds me, where’s the teaser trailer?

Be sure to head on over to TIME to read the entire article.  It’s a great piece on the (hopefully) re-emergence of 3-D films.  Well worth the read.

Avatar is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2009.

watchmensmall-010809The details of the recently announced settlement between WB and Fox have leaked.  Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that WB will have to give Fox 8.5% of the gross of the film, plus some up front cash which includes “recoupment of its development costs and attorney fees”.  Additionally, Fox will have a piece of the franchise from this moment forward, so if WB decides to make a sequel or any spin-off’s — however unlikely that may be — Fox will get a take of its profits.

I’d say Fox made out really, really well, huh?

Watchmen hits theater on March 6, 2009.
