Avatar Concept Art [UPDATED] November 21, 2008 7:16 pm

UPDATE: Turns out the photos weren’t legitimate concept art from Avatar and I’ve removed them from the site.  The original artist left the following note in the comments below:

I’m Jonay Bacallado, the author of the images. They are part of my artwork, my personal artwork, and it has nothing to do with the actual concept art of the film. The interview has been removed from http://www.plansiete.com as well, I’ve spoken about his incident with responsibles of the program, because information it’s not accurate, and things can be misunderstood. Please, I have to ask you to remove this information, because the images shown are part of my own portfolio, no one has asked for authorisation, and of course, and most importantly, those designs have nothing to do with the real concepts and designs. I spoke during the interview about my experience, images were taken from my website, and they asume they are real concept art, but is not. The editing odf the video is quite confussing and may lead people to think it’s the real concept art done, but it’s not!!! Just to emphasise what I’m trying to explain mention that the design of characters have been done by another team, and we only get invlolved in costume, and as I said before, Avatar is far from this personal creation of mine included in my portfolio. This would get me into trouble, and without a reason, because this is NOT AVATAR CONCEPT ART. So please, people who follows Avatar news deserve to know that this concepts are FAKES, they are my creation, but have nothing to do with the work done in pre-production. Thank you, Jonay Bacallado.

twilight-1-small-72308It appears Summit Entertainment is in store for a very big opening weekend for Twilight, the vampire-themed film based on the best-selling book series by author Stephenie Miller.  Current forecasts have pegged the film at making between $60 million to $65 million, a range that could be easily exceeded if the midnight gross is any indication.

Twilight is currently No. 3 on Fandango.com’s list of top advance ticket sales. Only Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and The Dark Knight sold more.

Paramount has released two official posters for David Fincher’s upcoming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  The film’s release is just a little over a month away, so I’m not sure what took Paramount so long to get these posters officially out (they’ve been spotted at several multplexes).  Oh well.  As always, click to enlarge.

Synopsis
“I was born under unusual circumstances.” And so begins ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,’ adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man’s life can be. Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett with Taraji P. Henson, Tilda Swinton, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond, ‘Benjamin Button,’ is a grand tale of a not-so-ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button hits theaters on December 25, 2008.

abclogo-513ABC has decided to order more episodes of Life on Mars, but has decided not to pick up Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone.

The network hasn’t officially canceled the three shows, however, leaving open the possibility of ordering new episodes in the future, although that seems very unlikely. All three shows remain on the schedule for the time being.

Life on Mars, meanwhile, which received an order for four more hours, bringing its first year to a full 17 episodes, will be put go on hiatus starting December 11th, when Private Practice moves into its time period. Mars returns with new episodes January 28th at 10pm, airing after Lost (which premieres its new season the preceding week).

And finally, ABC has set a premiere date for Scrubs. The former NBC series that the network picked up after it was canceled will premiere Tuesday, January 6th at 9pm. with back-to-back episodes for two weeks, before settling into its regular time slot at 9:30pm.

thewolfman-112108The horror site Fangoria Online is reporting that Universal is delaying Joe Johnston’s The Wolfman from its previously announced April 3, 2009 debut to sometime next fall:

Fango just heard through the grapevine that we may have to wait a little longer to see Benicio Del Toro get hairy. Word is that Universal is delaying THE WOLFMAN from its previously announced April 3 debut to sometime next fall.

Synopsis
Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, ‘The Wolfman’ brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Oscar® winner Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar® winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother…and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.

Lawrence Talbot’s childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother’s fiancé, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline (Hugo Weaving) has come to investigate.

As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself; …one he never imagined existed.

cwlogo-513Poor ratings have forced The CW to end its relationship with Media Rights Capital, the company that had been producing its Sunday night line-up.  The contract was terminated after MRC couldn’t follow up with its payments to The CW.  That was no doubt the case due to its extremely low ratings on Sunday night, some of the lowest ever for the network.

The three shows that aired on Sunday’s this season were In Harm’s Way, Valentine, Inc. and Easy Money.\

In the meantime, The CW will air repeats of the first season of the canceled CBS drama Jericho at 7pm and movie repeats from 8-10pm.

beautyandthebeast-112108Disney is updating the classic animated film Beauty and the Beast.  Producer Dan Hahn and directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale–the filmmakers behind the 1991 feature film—are using the original computer files to create a new Disney 3-D version of the film.  The new version will be released in 2010.  It will be the studio’s 11th 3-D feature set for release between 2009-10.

“By going back to the original animation files, which have been carefully archived for 17 years, and using the separate background, effects and character animation elements, we’re able to come up with a fun and unique 3-D experience for existing and new fans of the film,” Hahn said.
