Downloads on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service are up 400% since the company introduced downloading of television and movies in November of last year, making the site the second most popular behind Apple’s iTunes.
The company is not releasing actual sales statistics, as it still has a ways to go before catching up to iTunes, which had a market share of 90% according to the latest numbers from the NPD Group (for the third quarter of last year, which has of course likely shrunk somewhat since then).
Contributors to Xbox Live include Warner Bros., Paramount, Lionsgate, MTV, CBS and NBC.
The service allows users to download TV shows and movies in both SD (standard-definition) as well as HD (high-definition) format.
