The Mario franchise is the number one bestselling game franchise, selling a total of 193 million, followed by Pokémon with 155 million.

A couple new HD networks have been announced at the Consumer Electronics Show.
Cartoon Network, CNN, FX, Sci Fi Channel, TBS and USA Network are being readied by their respective parent company for simulcast high-defintion launches by the end of the year.
So far the only provider expected to cover all the networks is DirecTV, but as the launches approach other providers are sure to get involved.

Sci Fi green lights new reality show January 11, 2007 10:30 am

Sci Fi Channel has given the go ahead for a new reality tv series titled Destination Truth.
The series, which will air six episodes in its first year, features Josh Gates visiting a different location each week said to be home to supernatural, mysterious stories.
Destination Truth is currently in production for a Q2 release this year.

NBC’s NHL coverage ready for return this weekend January 11, 2007 10:00 am

The second season of NBC Sports’ NHL: Game of the Week kicks off this This Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET. Brett Hull also will be making his debut as a studio analyst during the game.
The first game of the season will be between the Philadelphia Flyers and the visiting Pittsburgh Penquins.

It appears NBC wasn’t the only one benefiting from the premiere of Grease: You’re the One That I Want” this past Sunday.
The Rialto production of Grease, which was scheduled to open with the premiere of the NBC reality show January 7, sold $1.3 million worth of tickets in only its first two days.

Just a friendly reminder that two HBO shows are making their off-network basic cable debuts tonight.
The Wire begins tonight on BET with the premiere episode at 9:00 p.m. ET, while at the same time the premiere of The Sopranos debuts on A&E.
The Sopranos will run from 9:00 to 11:11 p.m. and The Wire from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Ever since writer-director Stephen Sommers announced he would not helm the third installment of the Mummy franchise, Universal has been looking for a replacement for The Mummy 3.
According to TMZ, it appears they’ve found their man: “Look for Universal to make the formal offer to Cohen sometime later this week,” TMZ.com said.
Cohen’s credits include Dragonheart, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Daylight and The Fast and the Furious.
Speaking of the movie itself, stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are both rumored to be interested in reprising their roles.

Microsoft Corp. said that they expect to introduce video games for its Zune music player within 18 months, in an effort to stay on equal footing with Apple Inc.’s iPod.
The Zune hasn’t had much success against the Apple iPod, selling in the “..hundreds of thousands”, according to Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices division of Microsoft.

New Line’s chief executive officer, Robert Shaye, had some harsh words for director Peter Jackson (King Kong, The Lord of the Rings).
“I don’t care about Peter Jackson anymore,” said Shaye. “He wants to have another $100 million or $50 million, whatever he’s suing us for. He doesn’t want to sit down and talk about it. He thinks that we owe him something after we’ve paid him over a quarter of a billion dollars. … Cheers, Peter.” (more…)

Fox News Channel host Bill O’Reilly (of the O’Reilly Factor) and Stephen Colbert (of The Colbert Report) will each make guest appearances on each others show.
On Thursday, January 18, Colbert will be appearing on The O’Reilly Factor at 8:00 p.m. ET and O’Reilly will be returning the favor at 11:30 p.m, appearing on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report.

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer, unveiled a new set-top box that allows users to stream video from their computers to their tv’s, as well as a new mobile phone that downloads and plays music.
Both devices were announced and showcased by Steve Jobs during his keynote at Macworld. It was also announced that Apple Computer, Inc. has stripped the “Computer” from their name and will now go by simply Apple, Inc.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron and 20th Century Fox have announced a planned summer 2009 release for the $190 million 3-d Sci-Fi epic.
That puts a 12 year gap between Cameron’s last feature film, the box office smash Titanic which holds the all-time box office record both domestically ($600 million) and world wide ($1.8 billion). (more…)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) has signed a three-picture deal with Paramount’s MTV Films and Nick Movies for a big-screen adaption of the popular Nickelodeon TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Shyamalan is signed on to write, direct and produce for the live-action project.

ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff, who was severely injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq last year, will return during the last week of February Sweeps period with a one hour special “To Iraq and Back: Bob Woodruff Reports”.

Those questioning whether or not the Florida Gators belonged in the BCS Championship game with the Buckeyes have been silenced.
The Gators handedly defeated the Buckeyes 41-14 in the championship game. It took an entire half just for the defense of the Buckeyes to adjust to the offensive onslought, while their offense never truely seemed to be in the game once Ginn (who opened the matchup with a 93 yard Kickoff return for TD) was sidelined with an injury.
