TNT’s Falling Skies launches second season with 4.5 million viewers

TNT‘s epic drama series Falling Skies, basic cable’s #1 new series last year, launched its second season Sunday night with strong numbers. The two-hour season premiere drew a total of 4,461,000 viewers in Live + Same Day delivery. Falling Skies, which comes to TNT from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg and stars Noah Wyle, helped TNT rank as basic cable’s #1 network for the night with a 2.3 household rating according to early metered-market data.

TNT’s Dallas rides tall with 6.9 million viewers

[Sunday] night’s eagerly anticipated premiere of TNT’s Dallas struck it rich with 6,863,000 viewers, to rank as the #1 scripted series premiere on all of cable for the year-to-date. This marks the third consecutive summer TNT has scored a chart-topping series launch, following Rizzoli & Isles in 2010 and Falling Skies in 2011.

TBS and TNT unveil new series and Summer schedule

Two of cable’s most successful brands are once again paving the way to the future with a bold, industry-leading strategy. According to the vision laid out by executives during the annual Upfront presentation today in New York, TBS and TNT will undertake a major transformation over the next two years, evolving from linear television networks into branded video destinations.

2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on TBS, CBS, TNT and truTv most-watched tournament in 18 years

CBS Sports and Turners Sports’ exclusive coverage of the 2012 NCAA® Division I Men’s Basketball Championship across TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV is the most-watched tournament in 18 years.

This year’s event is averaging a 5.3 U.S. HH rating through Saturday, up 4% compared with a 5.1 rating in 2011 and an increase of 15% over a 4.6 rating in 2010 (according to Nielsen Fast Nationals). The corresponding average of eight million viewers this year is +3% over last year’s 7.8 million viewers and +14% compared with seven million viewers in 2010.

TNT greenlights pilot for Chelsea General

TNT has ordered a pilot for Chelsea General (working title), a new medical drama series from award-winning producer David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope) and practicing neurosurgeon and CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, M.D. Kelley and Dr. Gupta will executive-produce. Kelley wrote the pilot script for the series, which is based on Gupta’s upcoming novel Monday Mornings.

TNT tips off the 2011-12 NBA season on Christmas Day with the Celtics @ Knicks

TNT will tip off the 2011-12 NBA season with a Christmas Day game featuring the Boston Celtics @ New York Knicks on Sunday, Dec. 25 at Noon (ET). A special hour-long edition of TNT NBA Tip-Off presented by AutoTrader.com precedes the season’s first game at 11 a.m. (ET). The show will feature studio host Ernie Johnson and analysts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, along with the TNT debut of 15-time NBA All-Star and four-time NBA Champion Shaquille O’Neal previewing the day’s action. Following the pre-game show, the 2011-12 NBA season will get underway with Paul Pierce and the Celtics visiting Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks at Noon (ET) live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Marv Albert (play-by-play) and Steve Kerr (analyst) will be courtside calling the action, with Craig Sager reporting.

Extended seventh season of The Closer returns on TNT November 28, 2011

A potentially career-ending lawsuit is just one of the issues that continue to plague top LAPD investigator Brenda Leigh Johnson this winter in TNT’s blockbuster series The Closer. The acclaimed drama, starring Emmy(R) winner Kyra Sedgwick, returns Monday, Nov. 28, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) with five new episodes of its seventh season, with the series’ conclusion coming in summer 2012. Among this winter’s offerings will be the 100th episode of The Closer, which is set to air Monday, Dec. 5, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).

TNT announces production underway on second season of Falling Skies

TNT has launched production on the second season of Falling Skies, the epic series from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg and starring Noah Wyle. The show finished its first season as basic cable’s #1 new series for the year-to-date. The second season of Falling Skies will air as part of TNT’s summer 2012 lineup. Several cast members are providing Twitter updates on the production using the hashtag #tntbackontheset.
