Jenna-Louise Coleman has beaten hundreds of hopefuls to become the new companion to Doctor Who, it was announced today by Steven Moffat.
Twenty-five year old Jenna from Blackpool, England will star alongside the 11th Time Lord, Matt Smith, to mark the biggest year in the show’s history.

Filming has started on the next season of BBC AMERICA’s highest rated series Doctor Who in Cardiff, Wales. This season will see the last days of the Ponds, with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill returning for their final rollercoaster voyage with The Doctor (Matt Smith). Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) have been at the Doctor’s side for more than two seasons but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?

The BBC has released the first official image from the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas specia (click to enlarge):
The title for the episode, along with a special preview, will be unveiled tomorrow evening between 8:00-8:30p.m. (local time) during the annual “Children in Need” special on BBC.

BBC announced during Comic-Con that Doctor Who will return to BBC America for the second half of the sixth season on August 27, 2011.
The network also released a new trailer for the remaining six episodes of the second half of the season. Watch it after the jump.

The all new season of sci-fi hit Doctor Who, which premiered on Saturday, April 23, has given BBC AMERICA its highest-rated, most-watched telecast ever in Live + Same Day. Doctor Who delivered almost 1.3 million viewers*, a .72 coverage rating in P2+, and a .92 in A25-54. In total audience, the channel was up 71,000 viewers, from its previous best for last season’s opening episode of Doctor Who in April last year.

The sixth season premiere of “Doctor Who” averaged 6.52M viewers at 6PM. “The Impossible Astronaut” was down 1.2M viewers from last year’s premiere.

The Doctor Who special “A Christmas Carol” drew an impressive 12.11M viewers on BBC on Christmas Day. That figure puts the show as the 3rd most-watched program on Christmas day. In series history, its the fourth highest rating since the series returned in 2005.
