Contrary to tabloid reports that suggested Tennant would leave the new BBC hit Doctor Who after the third season (article on that here), showrunner Russell T. Davies has confirmed that the actor will portray the character for the entire duration of the next season.
In an interview with Doctor Who Magazine, Davies said: “He’s doing the whole series.” “It was never even discussed that he might leave after six episodes. That’s completely invented by the papers.”
So rest assured Tennant fans, the Doctor will be making house calls for at least another season.
But will the actor be with the show past season 4? Davies admitted that the prospects of a longer deal are uncertain: “None of us knows exactly what will happen after series four,” Davies admitted, “[but] there’s already talk of a 2008 Christmas Special.”
Note: In the U.K., a season is referred to as a series.
