heroestitle-81908Entertainment Weekly got a chance to chat with Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) who’s returning to the show as a consultant.  Fuller talked a bit about the show’s new volume, titled Fugitives, which kicks off on February 2nd:

It really is a fresh start. All of the characters are back in their real lives. You see Peter as a paramedic. Claire is looking for colleges. We get away from the world of formulas and quasi-magic.

Yes. Episodes 14, 15 and 16 are amazing. The whole “Fugitives” arc starts out very strongly, and then it gets a little dense in the middle in terms of the mythology. So I came in right at the point where everybody was realizing, “Oh, we’re getting too dense here and we need to put faces on stories because there is no face to a formula; there is no face to saving the world.” So it’s turning this big ship back into a character stream, and everyone on the writing staff shares that desire. We need to get back into a character place, because that’s where this story started: Very clean, superhero metaphors to everyday life. That’s the path that we’re taking. But it is a big ship so it’s going to take a little while to turn it.

You can read the rest of the interview at Entertainment Weekly.

Entertainment Weekly is also reporting that NBC has just cast John Glover (Smallville) to play Sylar’s father on the series.

“When Sylar meets his father, he’s going to see a path ahead of him that he doesn’t want to take,” says a source. “He has a lot more in common with his father than he realized.”

atlantisrisingcomic-121108Writer/Director Joby Harold is in negotiations to write the adaptation of the comic book Atlantis Rising for DreamWorks.   Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing for DreamWorks alongside Platinum Studios Chairman and CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, who created the original Atlantis Rising five-part series.

“As a writer, Joby has an amazingly strong understanding of how to take genre seriously, which is prerequisite No. 1 for us when it comes to these kinds of movies,” said Kurtzman.

“In all the classic versions of this kind of movie, the threat is always from the stars,” Orci said. “The idea that it’s somehow our cousins who went off in a different path of evolution who have been here, literally, underneath our oceans. … That’s fascinating, the idea of secrets right under your nose.”

quantumofsolace-82108Daniel Craig says he’s ready to begin work on another Bond film. In an interview with ComingSoon.net about his next film, Edward Zwick’s Defiance, Craig opened up about the reception to Quantum of Solaceand his plans for another installment.  Here are some highlights from the interview:

ComingSoon.net: The critical reaction to “Quantum of Solace” was somewhat different than that for “Casino Royale.” Did that surprise you?

Daniel Craig: No, because “Casino Royale” was based on a novel and we’re always going to have that. When you do a movie like that, where the basis of a story is really strong and also the momentum of it, everyone thought that it was going to be sh*t. So when it wasn’t, they were all just completely surprised. I think that “Quantum of Solace” is as good a movie as “Casino Royale.” I think that the difference is that last time people were surprised by the fact that they enjoyed it. The fact is that we get reviews in newspapers that we’d never had reviews in before. Certainly with the Internet we get seven and a half million reviews, which are all worth looking at, obviously.

CS: Do you think that calls to go to work on the next one will come a little quicker after the huge success of “Quantum?”

Craig: I haven’t heard anything – but then I’m not answering my phone.

CS: What more do you want to do with Bond? What other parts of him would you like to explore?

Craig: Well, I genuinely think we’ve got a blank page now. We’ve finished this story off. “Quantum of Solace” was exactly the right thing to do. We started something with “Casino Royale” and we wrapped it all up with “Quantum of Solace.” We’re ready to begin again and we can do what we want.

Quantum of Solace is performing on-par with Casino Royale and has grossed $510.6 million worldwide ($152.7 million domestically and $357.9 million overseas).  Casino Royale grossed $594.2 million worldwide–$167.4 million domestically and $426.8 million overseas–when it was released in 2006.

we3-120908Kung Fu Panda co-director John Stevenson has been tapped to direct a big screen adaptation of Grant Morrison’s comic book miniseries We3 and producer Don Murphy confirmed to ShockTillYouDrop that the film will be R-rated and live-action:

“Even though the film is going to be live-action, we brought on the lead director of Kung Fu Panda [John Stevenson]. He’s attached to direct We3. We’re doing it as an R-rating. It’s not going to be cutesy. There’s killer rabbits and stuff. We’re in the process right now of trying to figure out where we’re going to make it.”

For those unfamiliar with the series, here’s the synopsis:

Collecting on of the most talked-about series of the year by superstar creators Grant Morrison (SEVEN SOLDIERS) and Frank Quitely (THE SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS), who provides a new cover, WE3 tells the unforgettable story of three innocent pets — a dog, a cat and a rabbit — who have been converted into deadly cyborgs by a sinister military weapons program.

With nervous systems amplified to match their terrifying mechanical exoskeletons, the members of Animal Weapon 3 have the firepower of a battalion between them. But they are just the program’s prototypes, and now that their testing is complete they’re slated to be permanently “de-commissioned” — until they seize their one chance to make a desperate run for freedom. Relentlessly pursued by their makers, the WE3 team must navigate a frightening and confusing world where their instincts and heightened abilities make them as much a threat as those hunting them — but a world, nonetheless, in which somewhere there is something called “home.”

“As broadcast television continues to change, success demands a new paradigm,” said Jeff Zucker, President and CEO, NBC Universal. “For the past few years, we’ve been very vocal about two things: Transforming broadcast television for today’s media landscape, and keeping Jay at NBC. In this one announcement we have done both. It’s great for NBC, for our viewers, and for our advertisers.”

“Jay has played a major role in defining NBC’s brand of high-quality entertainment,” said Silverman. “The 10 o’clock hour will bring Jay a whole new audience and provide a great lead-in both for our local affiliates and for Conan O’Brien, the next great host of The Tonight Show.”

Jay Leno signs off as the host of The Tonight Show on May 29, 2009.  Late Night host Conan O’Brien will take over hosting duties on June 1, 2009, while Jimmy Fallon will take over O’Brien’s spot on March 2, 2009.
