CBS managed to just barely hold off NBC for first on the evening among households and viewers, but NBC did manage a first place finish among adults 18-49 thanks to a strong showing from the networks Sunday Night Football telecast.

CBS carried the night by a fairly wide margin among households and viewers, but had to settle for second place among adults 18-49, with NBC taking first in that demo. Terrible series debut for Fox’s Anchorwoman pushes the network into a last place tie on the night among adults 18-49.

Many expected High School Musical 2 to do well on Friday, given the first one was a hit for Disney both in television and in the DVD market, but it’s doubtful anyone expected it to reach more than 17 million viewers.

When Masters of Science Fiction, the short-run science fiction series on ABC, premiered on Saturday, August 5th, ABC seemed to be right it showing little faith in the series, as it premiered to very low ratings. But week 2 saw a solid increase for the series, one that could make ABC take notice if the trend continues.
