Sony and Paramount to Partner for Tintin November 2, 2008 4:03 pm

Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures are in talks to co-finance the digital 3-D Tintin series from directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. The series is based on the Belgian comics of the same name.
Details, via Variety:
After resolving the Paramount-DreamWorks divorce, putting together a studio deal for “Tintin” was next on Spielberg’s agenda. After Universal balked at partnering on the first installment, which Spielberg will direct, Paramount offered to fully back the first movie with a reduced backend at $135 million for the two gross participants. When the filmmakers held out for a better deal, a partner became a viable alternative.
The original deal called for there to be a three-film deal, but it looks like this will now be a two-picture deal, with Spielberg to direct the first film (still expected by 2010) and Jackson to direct the sequel.

The latest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, opened to large audiences on Friday in the U.K., taking in $8 million (£4.94 million) in its first day of release. That haul, which was made possible by lots of advance ticket sales, makes ‘Solace’ the biggest Friday opening of all time in the U.K.
The previous Friday best was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which earned $6.5M (£4 million). The previous Bond film, Casino Royale, did $4.7 million inn its opening Friday, but unlike ‘Solace’, it had the benefit of Thursday previews. The film has a good shot at surpassing pre-release expections, which pegged the film doing $21 million (£13 million) over the weekend.
Quantum of Solace hits theaters in the US on November 14th.

While Fox opted not to renew its long-running animated series King of the Hill (related article here), the network has decided to give a greenlight for a fifth season of American Dad. Executive producers Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman have also signed new overall deals with 20th Century Fox TV:
“It was one of our goals going into the summer to make sure their services were secured,” said 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden. “The show has evolved creatively under their leadership. And when you find a tentpole player like Seth, one of the critical elements in supporting their companies is locking up the services of the people they depend on, they trust.”
Production on the currently running fourth season of American Dad is coming to a close, just as the writing team is starting to break stories for the show’s fifth season.
