The Lifetime original series Army Wives has been given an early 18 episode order for season 2.  The year’s #1 new cable drama among W18-49 and W25-54 (key groups for Lifetime) is the networks highest-rated series in their 23-year history.

Army Wives is currently averaging a very strong 3.6 million viewers, ranking first in all key women demographics, including 1.4 million W18-49 viewers and 1.4 million W25-54 viewers.

“Even before we shattered records with the premiere on June 3, we saw the battalions of critical acclaim and knew we had a hit,” said Susanne Daniels, President of Entertainment for Lifetime Networks. “Everyone up and down the chain of command deserves a medal for making the show such a success, from our amazing partners at ABC Studios and the production teams both in LA and on the ground in South Carolina to my talented colleagues here at Lifetime and, of course, those nearly four million viewers who tune in every week. All of us want to collectively thank Mark, Deb, Katherine, Jeff and the entire gifted cast for their hard work and dedication.”

“We’re thrilled that ‘Army Wives’ will continue on Lifetime, where it’s broken ratings records and set new standards for quality in cable drama,” said Mark Pedowitz, President, ABC Studios. “We’re grateful for the support of Lifetime and the State of South Carolina, where the series is produced, and look forward to working with both partners on season two.”

Army Wives airs Sunday nights at 10:00 p.m.

Hi jenn and kristal. Thanks for visiting the site.

An exact date hasn’t been announced yet, but the second season will premiere in the Spring of 2008.

From the press release:

Eighteen episodes have been ordered for the new season, which will premiere in the Spring of 2008. “Army Wives” airs Sundays at 10PM (ET/PT).

7. jenn - August 21, 2007 9:38 am

i have to wait a whole year for season 2?

8. karen - August 26, 2007 1:20 pm

I was looking at the complete cast list and noted that several people are listed as having been in 25 episodes. So what happened to the extra 12 episodes? Are they for the new season?

9. Kathy - August 26, 2007 10:01 pm

We are just boowhooing over the finale of this season. Can’t wait to see what happens in January! Wish it was sooner.

10. Beckie - August 26, 2007 10:04 pm

I am looking forward to seeing what happens after tonight’s show. I want to cry !!

11. Renee - August 26, 2007 10:05 pm

Awesome show I love it!!!! I wish they hadn’t had ended the show like they did though :( too long of a wait to find out what happens

12. KAREN - August 26, 2007 10:08 pm

AW…COME ON!..WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THIS??….WE HAVE TO WAIT ALMOST A YEAR FOR THE SECOND SEASON??? I COULD SEE IF THERE WERE A MULTITUDE OF RERUNS BUT THERE ARE ONLY ABOUT 7..AM I RIGHT???…YOU PRODUCERS HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS…THIS IS UNHEARD OF…AND IT’S WRONG!!!…YOU ALL DONE PISSED ME OFF NOW.

13. Ang - August 26, 2007 10:10 pm

Oh my goodness!! Spring 2008. Ok, ok. Time flies EXCEPT when you have to wait till Spring for the next episode. Come on Spring!

14. tanya - August 26, 2007 10:11 pm

Im a military wife and and i think this show comes very very close to what my life is like. I love this show and have to watch it every sunday! I cant wait until season 2!

15. Molly - August 26, 2007 10:16 pm

Spring 2008 is to long to wait! It’s obvious we all love the show. I think they should premier the 2nd season in the fall. Keep us interested, you know. Wait to long and we may lose interest. It’s such a good show, why make us wait so long!!

16. vanessa - August 26, 2007 10:16 pm

are they freckin serious they cant do this to me!!!! i cant wait till 2008 thats messed up

17. KENDRA - August 26, 2007 10:18 pm

I HAVE WATCHED THIS SHOW SINCE THE 1ST EPISODE ,,,I NEVER MISS AN EPISODE..PLEASE PLEASE BRING SEASON 2 SOONER THAN NEXT YEAR!!!!

18. Donna - August 26, 2007 10:18 pm

I think if we have to wait a year to see season 2 You will lose your tv ratings. People move on. That’s why some shows never make it the next season. People forget. And with Ary wives it’s maybe a show but to alot of people it is real. Wives of soldiers go through this everyday. And something like this show just might help them get through it. Take if from a ex wife of a air force wife. may not be army but still we are all in this together.

19. Air Force Wife - August 26, 2007 10:18 pm

I CAN NOT WAIT THAT LONG

I know I have to but I do not want too, that is just crazy. I am gonna go crazy waiting……

Grrr, Sping 2008 that is just CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

20. Jen - August 26, 2007 10:19 pm

OMG! we need to get a petition going for an earlier start for season 2….I CANT WAIT ALMOST A YEAR!! talk about a cliff hanger!

21. J's Wife - August 26, 2007 10:20 pm

since it takes so much time for production in Army Wives it has been the best show that has caught my eye since past shows. I am a new army wife and just seeing some of the intense moments gives me new outlook on how the Army really works…plus its just the beginning and a forever ending! I hope Army wives is forever or at least 6 seasons or more! LOVE THE SHOW, CAN’T WAIT TIL’ 2008 FOR SEASON 2!!! They should’ve shown episodes for next season, that way we will at least have an idea of whats to come!!

22. Karen - August 26, 2007 10:20 pm

I didn’t know anything about military life and it seems like if this is an accurate portrayal I am beginning to understand the sacrifice these people have to make each and every day to insure our freedom. It is hard on the enlisted men but equally hard on their families. I look forward to season 2.

23. Real Army Wife - August 26, 2007 10:22 pm

This show definately hits very close to home. My husband and I are just like Roxy and Trevor, we were only married a few months when he left, now we’ve been married almost two years and hes been gone nearly the entire time. This show is wonderful I do not miss it. Once I even called into work sick to catch the show. Thanks for such a great show!!!

24. Bob - August 26, 2007 10:23 pm

Watch!!!! Amanda will be dead in the season opener……

25. Alicia - August 26, 2007 10:24 pm

NO WAY!!! Surely it will not be that long.. I love the show.. Keep our fingers crossed for an early season!!

26. Tabitha - August 26, 2007 10:24 pm

I say we get that petition started to get season two on sooner. I’m left hanging after that finale. I think I might go nuts waiting till next year to see what is in store for the show. Please bring it back sooner!!!

27. Wonderwoman - August 26, 2007 10:27 pm

I agree…I think Amanda is a goner.

28. proudARMYwife - August 26, 2007 10:35 pm

Omg! i cant waittttttttt for season 2. i love it! i’m a army wife myself and its soo fun to watch.

29. michele - August 26, 2007 10:44 pm

i think its craz to make everyone wait till spring for something decent to watch please bring it back sooner no one wants to watch reruns for 6 mths we watch tv all year long and would like programs that reflect that if we want reruns there is always late night cable
i love the show but not the network that make the decision to make me wait forever to find out whats happening at least daytime soaps move faster and dont make you wait till the following season

30. amelia allen - August 26, 2007 10:52 pm

are most of the cast in season 2?

31. Reyna - August 26, 2007 10:58 pm

The show was awesome it even made me cry. Im not to happy of how it ended, so intense!!! WHy do we have to wait so long for season 2? Awesome show, love it! Cant wait for Spring 2008!!!

32. Breann - August 26, 2007 11:05 pm

When does the DVD for season 1 come out? I want to go buy it this second!!!
PLEASE come out with season two sooner! I already have withdrawls just waiting for sundays!!!! :)

33. Connie - August 26, 2007 11:07 pm

What a cliff hanger, I too am a long time Army wife, seeing these episodes is so very believable having lived this life for almost 34 years. I believe Amanda will be a goner too, as she was a “guest star” on the show. Will be interesting waiting anxiously for the new season, but I gotta say “What a show!” God Bless our Troops

34. Tara - August 26, 2007 11:50 pm

Season two should definitely air much sooner than Spring of ’08. I’m going through my husband’s 2nd deployment, and although I loved ‘Over There’ during the last deployment, this show is keeping me more entertained and is definitely helping the time go by faster (compared to the last). I look forward to Army Wives coming on each Sunday night. I can’t believe Spring of ’08 is when the next season will air. That’ll be towards the end of this deployment, and that just seems too far away. I hope the air time changes and it comes on sooner. Fingers are crossed. :-D

Amen Connie… God bless our troops and their families!

35. Mary Ann - August 26, 2007 11:58 pm

I’m a Navy wife, and I also love this show so much! I don’t want to have to wait until Spring 2008! That’s crazy! I’ll wait however long it takes, but I would really appreciate if they would put new episodes on sooner!

36. Patricia - August 26, 2007 11:59 pm

Would be nice if we didn’t have to wait till spring 2008 but if that’s how they plan to do it – we’ll all have to just wait. Maybe with all the positive comments – they will do re-runs soon so all those that missed it will have a chance to join the legends of us who can’t wait for Sunday nights.

It’s a great show and although there are some things that don’t seem right about “Army Life” – it does seem to get it right where the families are concerned. As an ex-wife of a career soldier – I can relate to so many of the stories.

And a special thanks to all the guys/gals serving our country. I, for one am grateful for all you do.

37. Jessica - August 27, 2007 12:18 am

Spring 08′ is way to long away. My husband is currently deployed, we were only married for 6 weeks before he deployed. This show has really helped make time go by so much faster for me. I love it, and I think they should air the show sooner than 2008 because it is not fair to make us all wait that long. When I first heard about this show I was very skeptical, but after watching the first episode I was hooked. I havn’t missed an episode. I can relate to it so much. Thank you to all of our troops who serve and to their families. I know how much of a sacrifice it is.
To my husband PFC Pearson: Stay safe and come home soon!!
God Bless our Troops

38. Leon - August 27, 2007 12:48 am

Am retired Military, I agree this is the first show I have seem where things are as close to reality as they could be. I to have watched this show from the start and not missed one episode. I feel like since the president admitted how well this show is doing and how good the rating are, plans should have been made to produce the second season sooner than the spring of 2008. That is truly unheard of for a show with such great rating, but you know what! taking this long to bring the show back probably will ensure that all cast members will return. Remember how the series Dallas would kill off a cast then bring them back.

39. Constant - August 27, 2007 1:07 am

What the hell!? No way it can’t end like that!! Why can’t they come on next sunday!? I might die waiting on next season to come.
Kudos’ this is a great show keep up the great work!

40. Russ T.C. - August 27, 2007 1:08 am

karen
The order for season 1 was for 13 episodes, and as far as I’m aware, the plan was for just those thirteen to air. As noted in the article, the network increased the episode order for season 2 (ordering 18 episodes for the new season).

By the way, welcome to all the new visitors to the site. Army Wives is a VERY popular show and has done extraordinary in the ratings. It’s just huge for Lifetime. Rating for the season finale should be very strong. Keep a lookout for a report on how it does when the ratings are released this week.

Just for an example of how well its performing, the series premiered with 3.471 million viewers and the most recent episode (from 8/19/2007) drew 3.808 million viewers. It’s very rare for a series to grow from its premiere. But Army Wives has. Amazingly, every episode (with the exception of episode 2) this season has rated higher than the series premiere.

Once again, thanks for visiting the site everyone.

Russ

41. Stef - August 27, 2007 1:11 am

I am a Marine wife, currently going through the 2nd deployment of my husband. I LOVE the show!!! It made the weeks pass so much quicker because I was always eager for Sunday night to come. What am I to do now???? I can’t wait until Spring ’08! I need my dose of ARMY WIVES!!! I can handle a few weeks without it, but sooo long!!! No way. Please start the second season early!!!!!!!!!! Maybe in October?????????????????

42. Terri - August 27, 2007 1:27 am

I agree we can not wait a year for season 2, if you cant get it this fall then in january, also a sooner time and longer show. It seems to go by fast every time. What can we say the country LOVES IT give us more before we loose interest.

43. ABFAN LEISTER - August 27, 2007 1:27 am

I am a sailor myself…but an airforce brat all my life…and i love this show…regardless of branch of service…and wife or husband status…i love this show to death…i totally cant wait a whole year to go by before i see another episode…its my wife’s and I’s favorite show ever…you gotta do something about this catastrophy…please i am begging you…we watch it every sunday like clock work with our pizza slices in hand…i mean this is like family night to the max!

44. Son - August 27, 2007 1:32 am

WHAT!!!!….First they did away with OVER THERE and now this. I agree with all who were left hanging in the season finale…Left to draw our own conclusions. But I do applaude the suspense.

45. Serving in Operation Stand By My Man. - August 27, 2007 1:39 am

As an Army wife for 5 yrs I love the show! I wish we did not have to wait for so long, but I will. They could go on for years on everything we go through and have to do. I love all the ladies on there! It definitly is very close to what we go through. Although most of them were the berets incorrectly ;) . I am unsure of what I think will happen this next season. I understand they can’t really show what will happen, although I wish they would, it would kill the suspense, that leaves us all lingering for more.
Maybe things are different now? Or for different branches… but I know that when my man has been deployed we don’t get to stand outside of a plane.. we wait in a gym before they leave and when they return. Still just as good! Thanks to all who serve – soldiers and there spouses.
They know they will get viewers this next season… I mean look at Greys Anatomy.. I come back for more each season and watch the reruns. How could we forget to watch Army wives next season? I know I won’t.

46. DGirl - August 27, 2007 2:08 am

Spring of 2008′ …This is to long to wait. I’m really disappointed with the decision to wait so long.
I really enjoyed the show. I looked forward to my Sunday night kickback and curlup with a bow of popcorn. It’s like enjoying a good book on a sunny day sitting under a tree. I hope to see the cast return! My husband’s a vet after serving in the military for about ten years. I have to say “It really touches home for former and present members of the military force. Especially, the dependent wives who endure changes from day to day. I know this to well.

To the producers and cast, great job you’ll are doing. Keep up the good work!

47. carrie campbell - August 27, 2007 2:38 am

i would agree with alot of women by saying ARMYWIVES rocks! i love the show and never missed one….and having to wait so long is awful people may lose interest …its been the same with lost i have to wait so long that i dont really want to watch it anymore and may forget to….so please bring this back sooner then spring that is just too long and it was the only show that gave me something to watch before goin to bed and started the week again, please bring it back sooner i cant wait to see what happens …

48. carrie campbell - August 27, 2007 2:38 am

52. Breann - August 27, 2007 8:40 am

When does season 1 come out!?

53. Brenda Uphoff - August 27, 2007 8:41 am

I love Army Wives and look forward to Sunday nights on Lifetime television. Please don’t make us wait until the spring of 08 for the continuing episodes..This is like reading a good novel, anticipating the next chapters. Please reevaluate your time table for bringing the show back. It is so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

54. Katie Rawlings - August 27, 2007 9:31 am

I can not wait until spring of 2008! Please bring back show earlier!! I hope Amanda’s not a goner! That would be too sad!

55. KAREN - August 27, 2007 9:43 am

WILL SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW MAY EPISODES AIRED FOR THIS FIRST SEASON, I KEPT SEEING ABOUT 5 PLAY AS RUNS…IF THERE’S MORE..THEN I DO FIND JOY IN THAT…HOWEVER…PRODUCERS!!..PRODUCERS…OR THE POWERS THAT BE:…YOU HAVE READ ALL THE ARMY/AIRFORCE..SERVICEMEN WIVES EXPRESS HOW ARMYWIVES HELPS TO GET THEM THROUGH THE SEPARATION FROM THEIR LOVED ONES WHO ARE DEFENDING OUR COUNTRY….THE LEAST, THE VERY LEAST YOU COULD DO, IS OFFER COMFORT TO THE WIVES AND FAMILIES OF THOSE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN AND DO ALL YOU CAN TO BRING THIS PROGRAM TO THE VIEWERS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE…LETS NOT PLAY GAMES..THIS IS NOT JUST ENTERTAINMENT FOR A LOT OF FOLKS…IT’S THERAPY…SO LETS GET THE SHOW BACK ON BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR VIEWERS..I DON’T KNOW WHO MADE THE DECISION TO PLAY GAMES WITH THE AUDIENCE THIS WAY BUT IT’S NOT A VERY SHREWED MOVE.

56. KAREN - August 27, 2007 9:47 am

I DON’T THINK AMANDA IS A GONER…SHE MAY BE THE ONE WHO TALKS HIM DOWN..i sure hope so….

57. Russ T.C. - August 27, 2007 10:41 am

Karen
There were 13 episodes original episodes aired this year. Lifetime repeats the show often throughout the week. And if you could, please refrain from using all caps. Thanks. :)

58. Brittany - August 27, 2007 11:06 am

For me Army Wives is a once a week fix that reminds me other people are going through the things I go through. I have been an Air Force wife for a little less than a year, I have seen that women either have what it takes to be a military spouse or they don’t. I have two boys and an amazing Airman for a husband and I’m proud to be a military spouse. This show not only gives us support but shows others the role we play everyday as spouses to our nations’ heroes.

….please bring the Second Season sooner!

59. Erica M. - August 27, 2007 11:12 am

I love this show!!!The season finale was amazing. it was so well done. the Roxy and Trevor scenes had me in tears. My boyfriend deploys for Iraq in a month so seeing someone else go through that hits so close to home. i want season two NOW!!

60. LADESSA DUGGAN - August 27, 2007 11:16 am

I LOVE THIS SHOW I CANT BELIEVE THEY ARE MAKING US WAIT UNTIL NEXT SPRING!! I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AT THE HUMP BAR.

61. ash - August 27, 2007 11:21 am

62. Linda - August 27, 2007 12:01 pm

Linda – August 27, 2007

Love Roxy and Pamela, sure hope you keep the same cast. If you change actors it will spoil the next series.

I’m a lot older than most who are responding, I’m from the Vietnam era, but I simply love the program and hope it continues. I’ll be watching it again tonight at 7:00 p.m. just so I didn’t miss anything.

Sure hope we don’t have to wait so long for the next season to start, that could just be tooo suspenseful with Marilyns’ husband walking in with all those explosives strapped to him. PLEASE, move it up sooner……

63. Lsummers - August 27, 2007 12:04 pm

Hi Russ!

Can you please explain why the decision was made for season 2, to not premire untill next spring? It does seem like a long time to wait.

64. Ashleimo - August 27, 2007 12:19 pm

They will probably wait so they don’t have to compete for ratings with other hit shows like Desperate Housewives. I agree with all of you too though…..I want it sooner!!!!

65. Allison - August 27, 2007 12:19 pm

“Army Wives” is a great show that I have watched every week since it began. As a military brat (both Navy & Army), who as an adult joined the Air Force, and then became an Air Force wife… this show hits a chord on a number of levels for me.

Regarding the finale, my guess is that Roland will save the day, and probably die in the attempt, thereby redeeming himself and not forcing him to make the decision of whether to divorce his pregnant wife. That would leave his wife a pregnant widow of a hero instead of a divorced single parent. Also, if Amanda was smart, she would slip right back out of the door that she just entered and go get help.

Regarding scheduling, think about it realistically …yes, “Army Wives” will be back in 2008, however my guess is that it will be returning in 6 to 8 months, not 12. ALL TV shows take time to produce and Lifetime has to have the time to create the new season before they can show it. Although I may be incorrect, I would presume that Lifetime is scheduling season 2 in the regular network season breaks. This strategy worked well for the first season. As a fan of ABC’s show “Brothers and Sisters”, which airs in the 10pm Sunday time slot, I went looking for something new to watch when their season ended, and that’s when I stumbled on “Army Wives”. Lifetime’s decision to premier the show during the off/summer season, while other networks were in re-runs, helped make it a hit. If they continue to coordinate airing seasons, ABC & Lifetime can end up with two solid shows that pull from a similar audience demographic, yet don’t compete with each other plus provide quality year-round entertainment. In my opinion, if Army Wives doesn’t have to compete head-to-head with the regular network season, it will probably consistently pull a larger audience and therefore have a chance of staying on the air for many years to come.

66. AW INSIDER - August 27, 2007 12:30 pm

It’s going to take a lot of work to prepare for the next season. That’s one factor. The cast and crew need a break as well. 15-17 hour days were not uncommon and really wore everyone down. The cast and crew were so into what they were doing that it totally consumed all of their energy. Katherine, Dee and the writers are diligently working on the next episodes story lines. This is actually a very large production and takes a lot of time to prep/film one episode. 7 days to prep and 7 days to film without working weekends, is what it takes. Be patient folks, top quality people are working hard at keeping it real. Also realize that most of our cast and producers don’t live in Charleston and when they wrapped, they went home to their families, kinda like a deployment, but with different purpose. To you Ladies (and men) that are waiting for your loved ones to return, keep it real and stand behind them 200%, forever.

67. KAREN - August 27, 2007 12:30 pm

Russ, T.C

OK, no caps…thanks for responding to questions…..one more please.!!..Will the re-runs continue?…It appears I’ve missed quite a few…I thought i was up to date. Thanks again…

68. Deedee - August 27, 2007 12:37 pm

I CAN NOT WAIT till spring 08 for season 2. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make it sooner. Awesome show.

69. Michael - August 27, 2007 12:44 pm

Just curious, and correct me if I’m wrong:
It is currently the end of summer, 2007.
Spring of 2008, then, would be < 1 year.

Other shows put out one season per year. That’s normal.

Then there’s shows like The Sopranos, which put out seasons every other year.

I think a 7-9 month wait for the new season (which will have many more episodes, it seems, which is a good thing), is worthwhile. And it’s always worthwhile to wait for some new Brigid Brannaugh screen time.

70. TABITHA - August 27, 2007 12:51 pm

SPRING OF ’08 WHY ARE THEY MAKING US WAIT SO LONG I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!

71. Lingo - August 27, 2007 12:54 pm

I agree with the previous posts….if you drag this on too long unitil season 2 your going to loose ALOT of viewers.

72. kelly - August 27, 2007 1:04 pm

I too am a fan of Army Wives, it saddens me to think that I will have to wait till spring 2008 to find out more about theses womens lives we have all grown to love in such a short time. I do have to say thank-you to lifetime for putting together such a great cast and for having a season 2!!!!! It a pleasure to watch. I for one am very great full to lifetime for giving all of us an opportunity to get a glimpes of what our men and women and families who serve US go through. Words alone can not express my gratitude to all the men and women of the armed services and their families, as they BOTH serve!

73. Breann - August 27, 2007 1:13 pm

Somebody please tell me if they know when season 1 comes out on dvd.
Thats all I need to know.

And look- we are all sad that it is going to take so long to come out- but it will be back… and when it is it will be amazing and everyone will still love it.
It takes time… yeah, and just be thankful that they are getting it by then. Some shows don’t put out a new season every year- some do it every other year…
THAT would suck. So, lets just be patient!
:)

74. Tracy - August 27, 2007 1:22 pm

I cannot wait til spring “08 for a new season, i am afraid i will forget and this is my favorite show of all time. it ended leaving us in such suspense. i am dying to know what is going to happen. it’s bad enough we have to wait a week but know we have to wait 8 months???? That is just crazy!

75. Susan - August 27, 2007 1:39 pm

I can’t believe it is over for the season. I just love my Sunday night – I didn’t know that it was going to be over – but will definitely look forward to the next season. Please advertise it so I don’t miss it. The cast is absolutely wonderful. Thanks for a great show!

77. Allison - August 27, 2007 2:36 pm

Yes ARMY WIVES is a great show. It provides a window into life that many civilians may not have understood or considered previously, plus a show that many military wives and families can relate to. However, give it a rest people. TV shows (great or otherwise) take time to make. Scripts have to be written, scenes need to be rehearsed, filmed and edited. That hour show takes weeks to make. The actors and film crew are human beings too and have a right to a little time off. The fast food mentality of our society is showing here in many of these posts. NO show is played continuously. They ALL take a break. Keep in mind that the regular fall network season lasts longer because it is stretched out with a number of inter-season breaks for holidays etc. Personally I appreciate being able to watch the ARMY WIVES season in its entirety in a more condensed time frame, even if that means that I have to wait a little longer to view the next season. I would cast my vote (as if that really counts) for Lifetime to create MORE episodes and therefore extend the ARMY WIVES season, giving us more episodes to enjoy. (Disclaimer: I am not connected to the film industry, just an appreciative, realistic viewer.)

78. Russ T.C. - August 27, 2007 3:08 pm

Lsummers (and all others asking about why the show won’t return until Spring 2008):

You’re always going to have to suffer through a long break between seasons. It’s unavoidable because networks only have the resources to order a set amount of episodes (usually 22-26 for broadcast, and 10-13 for Cable). A network simply doesn’t have the resources to produce enough content for a full year (that would be 52 episodes!).

So you run a season, take some time off, and begin filming the next season which usually returns around the same time period as the prior one. In Broadcast television, shows usually premiere in September to October, whereas in Cable they premiere more around midseason or during the Summer months. The strategy there is the broadcast nets are showing mostly repeats or summer fare (i.e. reality programming) so a cable network has greater chance at attracting a larger audience.

A possible reason for the network adding an additional 5 episodes for season 2 (18 episodes total) could be that they will try to relieve the long wait that is happening now. See, the network will likely air several episodes, then take a few weeks off (or more) and air the remaining episodes. This way, the layoff between NO episodes is minimized. An example (none of this is confirmed, I’m just making an example) could be they return the show next year in June and air nine straight episodes (so say June through the end of July). Then they could take a couple months off, return with the remaining nine episodes in January or so, and then start the process over again in June. If they take this approach, the break between no episodes will could be reduced from 7-9 months to something like 4-6 months.

Again, a break between seasons is unavoidable. The key is to try to limit that break through effective scheduling.

Hope that answers some of your (and others’) questions.

Karen
Lifetime is repeating the season finale tonight at 8:00 p.m. Keep a look out for possible marathon airings of the show on their website. And you can view the networks schedule here.

79. sagee - August 27, 2007 3:28 pm

i absolutely fell in love with the show from the day 1!!! the characters are believable and provide a realistic view of the life of an army wife. spring 08 is a long wait but if the 1st season is any indication of what the 2nd season is to bring than i’m absolutely sure that the 2nd season will be worth the wait!!!!! lifetime, you can count on this viewer in philadelphia to tune in!!!!!!!

80. Becky - August 27, 2007 3:50 pm

I hope that we don’t all forget about Army Wives during that long wait!!!!!! I love this show, but come on….7 months!

81. Shyla - August 27, 2007 4:19 pm

I can’t wait until the next season. I am a former soldier and now an army wive and the things they have shown are some of the things I have seen or experienced. That’s why I like this show, because it’s close to home.

82. Aimee - August 27, 2007 4:29 pm

I believe that if all of you were touched by this show, just as I was, and made time every week to make sure you watched it once or multiple times… it is not something that is going to slip your mind. If we are all taking time out of our lives to post and discuss this topic because it is that imporant, I find it hard to believe that we wont watch because there is a break inbetween. I know that I will be waiting anxiously for the second season and definately wont miss it for anything. Most people above are correct, all shows take a break, this one just happens to leave us in a bit more suspense. However I think we can all agree that we would rather wait till Spring and be in suspense, than to have had the series end yesterday for good and not be picked up AND extended for next season.

God bless the troops and their families. I’m glad there are shows like Over There and Army Wifes. I am not part of a military family myself, but I have friends and relatives that are, so it helps me to keep everything in perspective, and keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

83. Lovenfaith - August 27, 2007 4:45 pm

Spring of 08 Come on! I don’t know if i can hold my breath that long. last night was intense and just plain scary. I knew there had to be a season two. How can a season end with all the characters being blown up! Agreed that if you change the cast it will not be the same. Please please tell me there is hope that season two will happen sooner. And whoever is starting that petition you have my signature!

84. KAREN - August 27, 2007 4:47 pm

Thanks for comforting us Russ…you’re so patient….I think i love you!

85. ARMY WIFE 4EVER - August 27, 2007 4:48 pm

i love this show soo much, i am an army wife and they potray military life very well. My husbnd just got back from a 2 year deployment and this show helped to pass the time. I wish they wouldn’t wait that long to bring it back, thats BS!

86. Danielle Rathburn - August 27, 2007 5:18 pm

i really love this show and cannot believe that its going to be close to a year for the next season. I am deploying in a few months and i will not be able to see the next season. i may not be in the army (Airman First Class) in the United States Airforce and my spouse is also in the military, but i have fallen in love with this show and i really wish i could see it. I wont be able to watch it or anything where i am. Just wish you could get it sooner for us viewers and military folks that are anxiously waiting for the next season to come!!! I just want to thank you though for portraying what it is like to be in the military and how the families are affected by it. This show really showed and explained alot to my mother who knows nothing about the military to really understand the life we go through. SO thank you very much and god bless.

Airman First Class Danielle Rathburn

87. Brad - August 27, 2007 5:20 pm

I think this show was first intended as a “chick flick”!! However I’m addicted and can’t wait for season 2…

88. Carla - August 27, 2007 6:19 pm

best show on tv!!never miss it on Sun night. Great actors. Very real. I love those people. I was air force wife for ten years stationed in Okinawa for four years, have never again had the close friendships I had then, I miss it all even all these years later. I loved military life so much more than civilian life. Only difference is officers wives and NCO wives didn’t “mingle”, may be different in Army, I don’t know, but Army Wives is still the best show ever on TV.Each character is perfectintheir parts, please don’t change any of them!! I think Amanda will save the day but you never know. What a cliff-hanger!!

89. Butterbean - August 27, 2007 8:21 pm

I’m with the rest of you on having Army Wives start sooner. I just happened on it one weekend when they were showing all of the episodes to date and COULD NOT leave the TV set. I can’t wait to see what really happend. I have my on theory but could probably be dead wrong. Anyway I’ll be looking for season 2 and hoping that it starts ALOT SOONER!!!!!

94. Amanda - August 27, 2007 11:31 pm

THats way to long im 16 me and my mom havent missed not one episode a year is way to long to wait i say season 2 sound start right after season 1 or start in fall if they have to wait some it is rediculase to wait that long i cant im dieing to know what happin specially at the end it left us all woundering this is wrong cant we all complain to lifetime.com if we all complained together to the right people like lifetime.com or send a letter to the p.o box my mom and i did they sent us a letter back and saied they would see what they could do i think we could get the start date pushed up if we all complained together

95. Jeannine Gore - August 28, 2007 7:24 am

I am a Navy wife and Navy mother. We absolutely love Army Wives! Please tell us the date of it’s new season premier. Can’t wait to see it!! “Bravo” on this TV series.
Thanks!

96. Brandi - August 28, 2007 8:38 am

Army Wives is a great show my husband and I love watching it together. Can’t wait till next season!!!!!!!

97. Breann - August 28, 2007 8:53 am

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN THE SEASON 1 DVD COMES OUT!????

i hate caps to, but i am the only one that hasnt gotten any sort of response…

98. Mary - August 28, 2007 10:11 am

I loved army wifes the best show ever i just could not wait till sunday!!!!! very upset it had to end so fast. I cant wait till seson 2!!!!

99. Yolanda Suarez - August 28, 2007 1:02 pm

I Love Roxy and Pamela. Start season 2 sooner.

100. Jamie - August 28, 2007 1:57 pm

I Heard season 2 will start in the middle of January. Lets hope that is true even tho thats along time away its still sooner than Spring. The show is Awesom. Claudia Joy, Denise, Pamela, Roxy and even Rolan make this show what it is and if they kill any of them off with the cliff hanger they left us all angry with, the show wouldnt be the same. The show Has its upper class (clausdia joy, rolan) the middle class (Denise) your Average American class (Pamela) and the lower class (roxy) All are Great I love every character, but roxy and her silly sayings are great. This show is for everyone. It shows you no one is better than anyone else. Im not an Army wife but i still relate to this show because of the people and who the characters betray

101. Jen - August 28, 2007 2:11 pm

I’ve seen this show from the beginning and agree that it is one of the best. I’m actually in a military tv phase right now, as I am watching reruns of JAG in addition to Army Wives. I love CB too, she’s such an amazing actress.

As for the petition, I hate to be a downer, but I don’t think it will work. As a production student, I know how long productions / tv shows take to create and finalize. With word that they wont even begin shooting the second season until November, Spring is about the earliest they can come out with good episodes that aren’t rushed. I like the next person CANNOT wait (ESPECIALLY after how they ended, oh my goodness!), but anticipation does have its benefits sometimes… In fact, it just may make season 2 extremely worth watching.

102. Russ T.C. - August 28, 2007 2:11 pm

Jeannine
There hasn’t been any sort of announcement in regards to a DVD release. It’s possible they may try to bring one out before the new season starts, as sort of another way to market it.

103. AIC Marshall's Wife - August 28, 2007 3:08 pm

Lifetime needs to air all the episodes online. I don’t have cable and I can’t afford it…I really really loved the first two episodes that you so rudely pulled down. =( Full episodes not just stupid clips. When does the dvd come out?

Season 2 needs to start soon. Thats all I have to say.

110. Ginger - August 28, 2007 9:15 pm

Please don’t keep us hanging like that until Spring….it’s too long away!! It was a great show!!! Season 2 come out soon!

111. Barbara - August 28, 2007 9:33 pm

I absolutely love “Army Wives”. The character development, the storylines, the acting, etc. are completely absorbing. I am SO pleased to hear that the show has been renewed for another season.

Is there any way to bring it back on earlier than the Spring of 2008? That seems like an eternity… It’s end of August so we’re talking about 7 or 8 mos. before we can see the show again… It’s extremely disappointing to have to wait that long…. I really hope that we won’t have to wait that long !!

112. Sarah - August 28, 2007 9:37 pm

Army Wifes is a great family show, and you don’t find many of those any more. So PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE bring it back sooner, we need good shows like that

113. Maggie - August 29, 2007 12:18 am

OMG did that really just happen???? Lifetime~ the season finale was great like you promised, however was it necessary to leave us viewers in such a predicament, lol. I love, love, love “Army Wives.” Spring 2008 is a long ways away, but the spring will be great because I have tons of other great fall shows. Can’t neglect “A.W.”, ya heard!

Maggie
Faithful viewer since day one June 2007, to be exact

P.S. You can see all episodes 1-13 on youtube. That’s how I kept up since I don’t have cable yet. LOL! (moving)

119. belle - August 31, 2007 8:56 pm

i too am a huge fan of army wives. it is actually the only t.v. show that i watch(seriously) i love to read, but i’ve fallen in love with army wives and i set my phone to remind me every sunday evening. i’m hooked and i can’t wait until the next season!

120. amy - September 2, 2007 8:41 pm

124. Michelle - September 16, 2007 9:17 pm

Just thought I’d add my comments also…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE start season 2 sooner! And please play reruns until then…This is like 3 sundays in a row with no army wives! I missed 2 of the last 4 episodes, I’d love to see a rerun!

AND START SEASON 2 ALREADY!!!

125. Candra - September 17, 2007 6:27 am

I.m syill waiting for season 2 . At night when nothing is on I rewatch all the episodes on dvd my kids and boyfriend say I know the show by heart, but I believe this is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. HURRY UP SEASON 2

126. 101stWifeHooah - September 18, 2007 4:57 pm

AHH I don’t know if I can wait until the spring of ’08! My husband is due back for his 2 week R&R then and I’m going to have to DVR it or wait until 1am to watch it! lol I love the show but I think I’ll be a little busy on the nights he home!

As an Army wife for 5 years it really hits close to home, and when it came out we were just going into our third deployment! It’s one of the things that got me thru the week!!! I can’t wait until the next season starts!!

127. Ansley Britt - September 19, 2007 6:15 am

Army Wives should come back before 2008 because if they don’t, people will forget half of the 1st season!

128. Tina Babcock - September 19, 2007 6:54 pm

I was wonder when Army wifes is coming out on dvd

129. Donna White - September 22, 2007 11:29 pm

Does anyone know when season 2 will be out? This program is just great my daughter was a real navy wife.

130. Wendy - September 23, 2007 7:10 pm

Being a military wife myself, I can’t tell you how impressed I am with how well this show captures the true-life, day-to-day struggles of military personnel and thier famlies.
I never missed an episode and would sit there nodding my head, knowing that so man of the issues addressed this series is dead-on!
Keep up the superb work, Lifetime!
I only pray that the show will air a little earlier next season!

131. Wendy - September 23, 2007 7:14 pm

Donna,
The site says Spring of 2008 is when Season 2 will premier.
In reality, it’s not that long. Just think, 2008 is really only a little over 3 months away, and then Spring is just another 3 months or so; so it really only comes down to about 6 months.

132. julie - September 23, 2007 10:01 pm

i was shocked when the season ended so soon . I look at the tv guide every sunday hoping to see season 2 begin. I hope it starts soon

133. LORIE - September 24, 2007 4:13 pm

I AGREE PLEASE PLAY RERUNS BECAUSE I DID NOT GET TO SEE SOME OF THEM ALSO.. THE ONES IN THE BEGINNING… SO IT WOULD BE NICE TO WATCH THEM AGAIN… I ALSO AGREE THAT IT IS TO LONG BEFORE THE NEXT SEASON.. I HOPE YOU WILL START THE NEXT SEASON SOONER..

134. Betty - September 24, 2007 9:18 pm

I sure hope that the Jan 2008 is right. This was a great show, I too love the military shows. Even though I wasn’t in the service, I had wanted to go in. Just as in Jag, Catherine Bell turns in another great job, along with the other ladies. Who can’t love Roxie’s spunk and street savie and Pamela on the Radio is a blast. Great show, it will be so hard to wait, but what a great thing to wait for.
Thanks Lifetime for putting together a great cast and writers.

135. debbie - September 25, 2007 7:01 pm

I would like for and executive to give us a real date for the second season. I am not a military wife but a great fan of the show. I think it is one of the best shows I have ever seen especially from a woman and a wife’s point of view no matter what the career. Please let us know as soon as possible. The characters are great!

136. Sandi - September 25, 2007 7:19 pm

Spring of 2008 that really sucks!! It aired about a month or so before my husband deployed and i was hooked! It was on for almost 2 months after he left and it helped me deal with it sooo much and truly did make time go by faster. I lived for that show on Sundays and it really sucks that he will be home and probably preparing for yet another deployment by the time it airs again :(

137. aletha glover - September 26, 2007 10:42 pm

Please, Please, Please , I beg you to start the second season sooner!!! I am a new army wife and my husband will be leaving in two weeks for basic training. I was hoping the new season would be starting soon, so I could watch it on Sunday nights and make the time go by faster. Looking forward to the show on Sunday nights is what I was hoping for.

138. Brian Heil - October 13, 2007 4:11 pm

By the time the second season starts, the war will be over!!

139. Christina - October 17, 2007 8:46 pm

Spring of 08 – say it ain’t so!!!!

I was an AF wife during the Vietnam War.

My son has been in the Army for 20 + years and will be retiring next summer.

I love the show.

140. Amy - October 26, 2007 9:17 pm

I am an army wife and my husband is also deployed at this time. I too was skeptical about the show but was hooked once I saw it. I think it gives people an insight as to how things can be in military life. Bravo for making such a successful show! Cant wait to see season 2. (My husband should be back by then and I will make him watch it with me:) )

141. Sami - October 28, 2007 6:25 pm

At first i was really skeptical about the show. I myself is an army wife with a husband currently deployed. what made me get into the show, my friend came over and made me watch with her, i got hooked. I went online and watched everything i missed. I love it, bravo!
I hope it starts sooner then spring 08!

142. M - November 6, 2007 6:08 am

I can wait until spring, as long as the episodes continue to be rerun on Monday nights at 8:00. I can’t stay up that late on Sundays.

143. lusenda - November 11, 2007 11:08 pm

army wives is the best show on lifetime how dare you guys end season one on such an intense episode.season two really needs to begin soon.that was the time for me to forget everything and have some me time it was also the time for my daughter to spend an hour out of the week to relax and spend time together.we really miss rox & cj without ARMY WIVES lifetime ratings will decrease instead of increase.so please give me back my relaxiation time of the week and my daughter & me time.

Bring back Army Wives as soon as possible. I was surprised at how much I liked/loved the show. All the characters are great, but Roxie sealed the deal for me.

146. Bamma who loves this show - December 6, 2007 3:03 pm

OK! OK! Enough is enough -writers-directors-producers-everyone involved,,,,lets get this show back on the air and the first season out on the shelves for us junkies to buy, (altho I have the 1st season on DVR but want it on DVD). Please make it longer than 13 weeks. How about 25 + weeks for a single season….That would be great. With the Military you can never run out of material for this cast. I LOVE them all. Great job with the cast and crew. HURRY HURRY AND BRING IT BACK ONTO THE AIR. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

150. Lynn Bennett - December 26, 2007 8:19 pm

My Mom was an Army Officer’s wife for 30 years and I was an Army brat and married a career Navy Officer.

We both agree that this show should be renamed “Desperate Army Housewives.” Complete and total soap opera. No self-respecting Army wife, such as my Mom who kept the home fires burning while my Dad served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, would have behaved the way these women do.

151. Marine Wife Karen - December 27, 2007 11:27 pm

WHen the show started, I was in my last trimester, going through my first deployment! I, like a lot of other military wives, thought the show would be bogus, but I swear I sat there week after week with my kleenex just amazed. At first I was in the closet about watching it, I am a Marine wife, but after a week or so I started seeing convos about it on our batallion wives myspace. I just want to say a huge Thanks for nailing it on the head, I can’t wait until the next season starts, this time, I get to watch it with my Marine!

152. Marine Wife Karen - December 27, 2007 11:33 pm

To Lynn Bennett:
What about the show do you think is so inappropriate? Obviously the cheating does happen, and I know all of the wives watching were cursing when it was going on, but it is a reality for some of the guys to come home to a broken marrige. The gossip that goes on, the clueless new wife on base, being mom and dad while daddy is gone, I don’t see anything that is inaccurate, I AM a self respecing Marine wife.

Me myself is really ready for the second season to come on.. i watch lifetime everyday, and what is bad they dont say nothing
about Army Wives. Maybe the producers need to air that Army Wives will have a second season. So that the people don’t have to go to a website just to see wietherthere favorite show comes back on or not.
I love Army Wives the show gets through to us how the Army really works well their housing and stuff, but I am totally glad that the show actually gets come back on!!!!

160. Russ T.C. - March 14, 2008 1:57 pm

Hey everyone.

It’s been a while since I’ve provided an update, but the second season of Army Wives begins in June (an exact date hasn’t been set yet).

Rebecca, you may have confused the start date for production with the premiere. Production on the new season is scheduled to begin mid-March. The March 19th episode is from the first season (Episode 2: “After Birth”).

Look for an update on the site when a specific date and time is released for the premiere of the new season.

Russ

A co-worker mentioned to me how much she liked Army Wives. I had not watched it before, so when I ran across an Army Wives marathon on TV. My husband was out of town for the day, so I decided to watch it. Well, I was glued to the TV all day. After watching the episodes I could hardly wait to watch the season opener. What a great show!!!!
My youngest son, and his wife are both currently enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. It was nice to see something focused on our military families….
Job well done to all involved in Army Wives..
