frankmiller-120408Frank Miller recently sat down with Superhero Hype! to discuss his upcoming film The Spirit, but the director also chatted about other projects that he has in the works, including sequels to Sin City and 300.

Miller confirmed to the site that he has “written a story that’s not a prequel” to 300:

“It’s definitely a further story in the Greco-Persian Wars, and it involves some of the same characters but I’m not sure exactly how far along it’ll get and again, until it’s on a marquee, I don’t believe in it.”

Miller also spoke about plans to get moving on a second Sin City and responded to last week’s news that Mickey Rourke was hesitant on returning for the sequel due to long hours in the make-up chair: “He has a pretty big role. I hope Mickey plays it.”  Miller also confirmed that although he directed The Spirit solo, he would prefer to once again team-up with Robert Rodriquez for the Sin City sequel:

“I hope to work with Robert. We’re talking it over and trying to work out the mechanics of actually getting it made. It’s always tricky with movies. I believe that a movie’s going to come out as soon as I see its name on a marquee.”

And finally, Miller hinted that he may publish a Sin City or 300 comic or graphic novel ahead of the release of either film.

sincity-120808IGN recently learned that Frank Miller has finished his script for Sin City 2 and plans to re-unite with Robert Rodriquez to shoo the film as early as April 2009, and now IESB has confirmed the start date with Rosario Dawson, who says she’s returning to reprise her role as Gail.

Meanwhile Mickey Rourke, who played Marv in the first film, didn’t seem all that interested in returning to the franchise when ComingSoon.net caught up with the actor at a press junket for Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, a film in which Rouke is getting rave reviews:

“No, I’m not interested in that right now. That’s not a reality right now. It’s pissing in the wind,” Rourke admitted. “There’s different factions going different directions there. I don’t know. That’s three hours of make up and I’m claustrophobic, so I’m going to have to work something out.”

With a production budget of just $40 million, Sin City debuted in April 2005 and went on to gross $158.8 million worldwide ($74.1 million domestic and $84.7 million from foreign markets). Sin City 2 will be based on the mini-series A Dame to Kill For.
