NBC takes first on the evening with a strong performance from its Sunday Night Football telecast, though ABC and CBS remain a competitive second and third, respectably.

In series premiere news, just as with The CW’s other two new series on Sunday, the series premiere of Life is Wild goes by barely noticed.

CBS once again holds off ABC to take first place on the evening among households, viewers and adults 18-49. CSI remained ahead of Grey’s Anatomy as the night’s most-watched program among households and viewers, while Grey’s Anatomy took top honors among adults 18-49. Though both shows were still incredibly strong, they went through weekly declines, with CSI suffering the most.

In its second week on the air, Big Shots took a bit of a dive.

And in season premiere news, it certainly appears as if the Emmy win for 30 Rock had a great affect on that shows ratings. The series posted record high viewership among adults 18-49, earning a rating in the demo 17% higher than last year’s premiere, and even more impressive, a whopping 42% above where the show left off with this past April. The other season premiere, The CW’s Supernatural, didn’t fare as well, with a steep yearly decline among adults 18-49.

The series premiere of Pushing Daisies was strong for ABC, as the network managed to stay ahead of CBS among households, viewers and adults 18-49 for the second straight week.

Week two of the Private Practice vs. Bionic Woman battle goes to Private Practice in all categories. While both series were still strong, they both dropped week-to-week, though Bionic Woman had a much more severe decline. Private Practice was the night’s most watched program among adults 18-49.

The real winner of the 9:00 p.m. hour though was CBS (second overall on the night)’s Criminal Minds which after a below-par season premiere last week rebounded for a strong first place finish on the night among households and viewers.

In the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC got a solid performance out of Dirty Sexy Money, which held onto 100% of its series premiere A18-49 audience, while NBC’s took a bit of a tumble.

Over at The CW, the struggling new network saw some good news with a bump in the ratings for freshman drama Gossip Girl.

A tight race between the top four, results in a win on the evening among households by ABC and a win by FOX among viewers and adults 18-49.

In premiere news, ABC’s new sitcoms Cavemen and Carpoolers both did okay, with solid performances among adults 18-49, despite low overall turnout.

ABC easily wins the night with a dominant two-hour edition of Dancing With the Stars.

Second week’s of new series The Big Bang Theory, Chuck and Journeyman all decline a bit, but not in any extreme amounts.

And the comedy lineup premiere on The CW performs poorly, including the series premiere of new comedy Aliens in America. The Game was the only bright spot on the night for The CW, with solid numbers and an increase over the year prior in all categories.

CSI leads CBS to a household, viewer and adults 18-49 victory on the evening, as the long-running drama series manages to beat ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in overall audience. Grey’s, which suffered through a yearly decline, was still able to win the night among adults 18-49.

Over at NBC, The Office had a successful transition to its new 9:00 p.m. timeslot, opening the new season with a series high rating among adults 18-49, but E.R. was off by a significant amount from last year’s premiere and My Name Is Earl performed on par with its year-ago opener.

ABC’s two other programs on the night, the season two premiere of Ugly Betty and the series premiere of Big Shots, performed well, but Ugly Betty was off a good deal from its series premiere last year, and Big Shots opened in a slightly weaker position than last year’s timeslot occupant (the now canceled Six Degrees) did, losing out to CBS’s relocated Without A Trace, which won the timeslot.

The CW’s Smallville got a good showing for its seventh season premiere, ahead of last year, while FOX’s ‘5th Grader’/’Lyrics’ duo declines in the face of increased competition.

ABC’s Dancing With the Stars: Results and solid premiere of Private Practice lead ABC to a Wednesday night victory among households, viewers and adults 18-49. ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money okay in debut.

CBS took second place among households and viewers with a declining Kid Nation and weaker than year-ago season premieres of both Criminal Minds and CSI: NY, while NBC got great results from its new series Bionic Woman and solid results, especially among adults 18-49, for the series premiere of Life to give the network a close second place finish among adults 18-49 for the evening.

Over at FOX, week two of freshman comedy Back to You declined, as did Kitchen Nightmares, but the decline wasn’t as steep as it was for sophomore comedy ‘Til Death.

The CW sees a big dropoff for week two of Gossip Girl and a solid performance from America’s Next Top Model.

ABC and FOX split Tuesday night leadership, with ABC winning the night overall among households and viewers and FOX showcasing its muscle with an impressive performance among adults 18-49.

In the battle of season premieres, ABC’s Tuesday debut of Dancing With the Stars held on to most of Monday nights audience, and was (just barely) the evening’s most-watched program. But the strong performance had not effect on the season four premiere of Boston Legal. House meanwhile opened in strong fashion (2nd most-watched program on the night) despite its total audience down from last year. The series made up for that decline with an improved rating among adults 18-49 (first place on the night).

Over at CBS, the new season’s of NCIS and The Unit were mostly on par with last year, with slight decreases. While at NBC, The Biggest Loser took a dive in its third week of the new season and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fell well short of last year’s premiere.

In series premiere news, Cane matched its year-ago time period occupant among households and viewers, but fell short among adults 18-49, opening with less viewers in that demo than last year’s time period occupant (Smith, which subsequently was canceled after only 3 episodes). Reaper also failed to show growth from last year’s occupant, however, the new series did improve upon its lead-in, Beauty & The Geek, which lost some viewership from last week’s premiere.

ABC’s Dancing With the Stars holds off the competition on Monday night.  The night seen a total of 10 season openers (three series premieres and seven season premieres, including ‘Dance’).  Though ABC was far and away the most-watched network last night, NBC was a very close second place among adults 18-49 with their solid season premiere of hit drama Heroes and okay series premieres for Chuck and Journeyman.

On the CBS front, all its shows returned down from year-ago numbers, but the nets new comedy series The Big Bang Theory showed good growth from its lead-in and improved the timeslot numbers among adults 18-49 from last year’s occupant. Over at FOX, K-Ville suffered a big loss.

The first part of PBS’s seven part WWII documentary Ken Burns’ The War, had an impressive debut Sunday night, earning a 5.0/7 rating/rating share. PBS is emphasizing the total reach as opposed to the average audience, and that estimate is that at least 18.7 million viewers saw at least some of Sunday’s two airings of the program.

With several shows returning for the new year, NBC got a big boost from their Sunday Night Football telecast, to hold off the season premieres in all three main categories. In a tough battle for second place, CBS held off FOX among households and viewers, but the network failed to reach the younger A18-49 demographic, where FOX placed second on the night, with a strong year-to-year improvement from the Star Wars themed Family Guy special.

Speaking to the premieres, Family Guy and King of the Hill were the only shows to increase their viewership from the season prior, with the rest of the season premieres (60 Minutes, Cold Case, Shark and The Simpsons) debuting down.

And in regards to The CW, most of the nation decided against taking a look at CW Now and Online Nation with the former just barely reaching the 1 million viewer mark, and the later failing to reach even that many viewers.

Big evening of series/season premieres and finales goes to CBS among households and viewers, while FOX takes the night among adults 18-49. Kid Nation performs so-so, down year-to-year, while FOX’s Back to You does well for the network, especially among adults 18-49. On The CW, ‘Top Model’ posted its usual strong season premiere numbers, but its lead-out, the new drama Gossip Girl doesn’t fare too well, only able to match last year’s timeslot numbers.

Despite a night of new programming from both NBC and FOX, CBS still manages to come away with a win on the evening among households and adults 18-49. The below-average season premiere of Prison Break and the solid series premiere of K-Ville combine to give FOX a win on the evening among adults 18-49.
