Disney is updating the classic animated film Beauty and the Beast. Producer Dan Hahn and directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale–the filmmakers behind the 1991 feature film—are using the original computer files to create a new Disney 3-D version of the film. The new version will be released in 2010. It will be the studio’s 11th 3-D feature set for release between 2009-10.
“By going back to the original animation files, which have been carefully archived for 17 years, and using the separate background, effects and character animation elements, we’re able to come up with a fun and unique 3-D experience for existing and new fans of the film,” Hahn said.

Academy Disqualifies The Dark Knight Score November 13, 2008 6:31 pm
Posted by Rosario T. Calabria in Batman, Movies, Music, News, Soundtracks, The Dark Knight.1 comment so far
Because the films music cue sheet lists five names as composers, the soundtrack to The Dark Knight has been disqualified by the executive committee of the Academy music branch. Formal letters will be sent out to composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, two who collaborated on the music, this week. Their previous collaboration, Batman Begins, was disqualified in 2005 for the same reasons.
Sources inside the committee said that the big issue was the fact that five names were listed as composers on the music cue sheet, the official studio document that specifies every piece of music (along with its duration and copyright owner) in the film.
Zimmer said, in an interview with Variety prior to this week’s Acad action, that listing multiple names on the cue sheet was a way of financially rewarding parts of the music team who helped make the overall work successful. (Performing-rights societies like ASCAP and BMI use the cue sheet to distribute royalties to composers.)

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first full photo of the Enterprise from director J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. Click to enlarge. The magazine also spoke with Abrams:
Abrams wanted to take the original TV series Enterprise and the movie franchise Enterprise and fuse them together into a new yet familiar Enterprise. His ambition was a ship that felt very realistic, that could “stand up” to today’s f/x standards—and beyond. “If you’re going to do Star Trek there are many things you cannot change. The Enterprise is a visual touchstone for so many people. So if you’re going to do the Enterprise, it better look like the Enterprise, because otherwise, what are you doing?”

Yahoo! Movies has premiered a new movie poster for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. As always, click to enlarge.
Synopsis
300’s Zack Snyder brings Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ critically acclaimed comic book Watchmen to the big screen, courtesy of DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures. Set in an alternate universe circa 1985, the film’s world is a highly unstable one where a nuclear war is imminent between America and Russia. Superheroes have long been made to hang up their tights thanks to the government-sponsored Keene Act, but that all changes with the death of The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a robust ex-hero commando whose mysterious free fall out a window perks the interest of one of the country’s last remaining vigilantes, Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley). His investigation leads him to caution many of his other former costumed colleagues, including Dr. Manhattan, Night Owl (Patrick Wilson), Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), Sally Jupiter (Carla Gugino), and her daughter, The Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman). Heralded for bringing the world of superheroes into the literary world, Watchmen gave the super-powered mythos a real-life grounding that had been missing in mainstream comics to that point. The film adaptation had languished in one form of development hell or another for years after the book’s release, with various directors on and off the project, including Terry Gilliam, David Hayter, and Darren Aronofsky, as well as Paul Greengrass, whose eventual dismissal stemmed from budget conflicts with the studio.
Watchmen hits theaters on March 6, 2009.
