arresteddevelopment-120408The New York Daily News’ Gatecrasher is reporting that Jeffrey Tambor believes that Michael Cera, previously reported as the lone hold out for an Arrested Development film, is on board for the project and that the movie will happen this year:

If I have to call him up and say, ‘Get on set right now, young man,’ he’ll be there…The movie is going to happen this year, and Michael Cera is on board. Trust me.

arresteddevelopment-120408Mitch Hurwitz, creator of the critically beloved but low-rated Fox series Arrested Development, has confirmed that a deal is in place with Fox Searchlight to make a big screen adaptation of the series.  However, Hurwitz cautions that casting is still not complete, and hints that the rumor that Michael Cera is the one holding up the process is accurate.  From FilmCast:

So what of the rumors that new dad Will Arnett and shiny movie star Michael Cera are the only two remaining holdouts?

“I don’t want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don’t want to pressure anyone through the press,” said Hurwitz. “Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there’s a big clue!”

Hurwitz added that he won’t get to work on a script until the cast he wants is locked up, but he did talk a bit about the possible story and whether or not the film would start where the show ended:

“I think in some respect it would have to pick up where the show left off,” he said. “Maybe the benefit of that would be, if nothing else, just to recap everything. There are a couple of ways to get into it. I was even thinking about a big animated sequence to start. Kind of like how the Blake Edwards movies used to start – to kind of catch everyone up.”

Hurwitz also noted that he hasn’t ruled out a possible prequel movie.  Click here to read the entire interview.

Jason Bateman Talks Arrested Development Movie December 4, 2008 7:44 pm

arresteddevelopment-120408Jason Bateman, who played Michael Bluth on the short-lived, but critically acclaimed Fox comedy series Arrested Development, updated ComingSoon.net on the status of the proposed feature-length film version:

ComingSoon.net: Will it be a relief when you actually start filming the “Arrested Development” movie so that people will stop asking you about it?

Jason Bateman: I don’t mind talking about it! I’m as big a fan of it as they are. So I feel sort of fortunate that I’m able to give them information on it. I would want them to give me information on it if they had it. I can say that we’re looking better than ever. There are just a few more conversations to be had with some cast members to see if they want to be a part of it. Once we get the head count we’ll be able to go forward with it and hopefully start shooting in the summer.

CS: Is the story already on paper?
Bateman: I don’t think so. I know that Mitch has a couple of ideas, but he’s really waiting to nail it down until he knows exactly who’s going to be involved.

CS: Do you see having Michael Cera and your relationship in film as something crucial? I thought that was one of the more important parts of the show.

Bateman: Sure. It’s not obviously my decision to make. It’ll be Mitch’s, but there are so many different ways to go with it just based on it being an ensemble. I can’t wait to see what he cooks up.
