cbslogo-513CBS has picked up three drama pilots, the networks first such pickup this season.  The three programs are Back, U.S. Attorney Project and Washington Fields.

Back: Follows a man who returns home only to discovery that he had been reported missing eight years earlier, following 9/11. He now has to reconnect with family and friends that have moved on without him.

U.S. Attorney Project: A legal drama about a team of federal prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan.

Washington Fields: About an elite FBI team that handles only the most critical cases out of the bureau’s DC office.

Oh WOW! A cop show on CBS. A Legal show on CBS. Who’da thunk it? Can’t wait to see them get the bad guys. Right!

Now “Back” sounds “different” – so I’m sure it will be whacked by the 3rd episode because the Neilsen Families seemed to only like CSI clones and as it is all about the money — well we know how that goes.

Let me know when the networks and advertisers figure out how to consider all viewers in all of our timeshifting capacities while buying and selling advertising seconds and I’ll tune in.

In the meantime, I won’t invest my time. I have a book club and when and where and how I read the story is controlled by me – just like I can control my TV with technology – the BIG difference being that I control my programing and my book can’t be canceled before I get to the ending! AND there are no commercials to skip through.

I know CBS is still looking for a show suitable for Alex O’Loughlin from Moonlight. I’d love to see him in “BACK:”…..sounds like a character driven story-line with lots of possibilities…….reconnecting with family & friends……….AND…..where was he during the ‘missing years’, what was he doing and why was he missing? All kinds of story ideas pop into my head…….and I can see Alex handling an emotional character very well………he does very very well with relationship issues. Sure hope they consider him for the lead in this show!

Oh look! CBS is burning off more out-of-the-box shows. Burn another million dollars on productions that will wind up in the trash.
You had some interesting shows. I won’t be investing my time in that station any more. Great idea with the book club. I’ll be writing my book.
Let CBS keep their crime loving Nielsen families.

CBS loves these procedural-like shows. Then again, they are basically the most consistent broadcast network (done in large part by catering to the older demo) so they are definitely doing something right.
