The Huffington Post is reporting that David Gregory will be taking over as moderator of NBC’s Meet the Press. Gregory has been a leading candidate to take over the spot ever since Tom Brokaw stepped in in an interim role following the death of long-time host Tim Russert in June.
For their part, NBC has denied the story, telling Politico “I don’t know where they are getting this. We have nothing to announce.”
Meet the Press has averaged 4.5 million viewers in November, finishing in first place to ABC’s This Week (3.5 million), CBS’s Face the Nation (3.1 million) and Fox’s Fox News Sunday (1.5 million). Meet the Press also leads among the key new demo, adults 25-54, drawing a 1.3 rating compared to ABC’s 1.0, CBS’s 0.9 and Fox’s 0.5.
Brokaw ends his moderating duties this weekend, where he’ll be interviewing President-elect Barack Obama.
