The CW will stop carrying WWE Smackdown at the end of the 2007-2008 season, World Wrestling Entertainment said Thursday.
WWE said it opened talks with other networks after the CW’s exclusive negotiation period expired on January 31st.
Possible contenders to pick up the show include MyNetworkTV and one of the NBC Universal channels.
Some of you may be wondering why The CW would drop the show, afterall, it is one of the networks strongest series in terms of ratings. The reasoning behind this is that though the show rates well, its viewed by a significant amount of viewers who don’t fall into attractive demo categories. Because of that, its ad-rate is among the lowest on primetime television.
