Helio Castroneves, the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, can add another trophy to his collection, that of winner of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.
Castroneves beat out Spice Girl Melanie Brown, who was the runner-up, and entertainer Mare Osmond despite the racer’s lower than average score handed out by the judges (judges vote accounts for 50% of the overall score, with fan votes supplying the other half) on Monday’s show.
His final dance on Tuesday, however, drew a perfect score, as did Melanie Brown’s.
“It feels totally different from winning a race,” Castroneves said after the show. “I wasn’t kidding. This goes right between my two Indy trophies. Otherwise, it would have been a big blank space.”
Castroneves is the fourth consecutive male to win the dancing competition.
