The CW has canceled the low-rated new program Online Nation.  They will be replacing the show with repeats of freshman comedy Aliens in America.

This marks the first official cancellation of the season. Fox already pulled Nashville from their fall lineup, but they haven’t canceled the show yet, deciding instead to return it to their lineup sometime in October (related article here).

Online Nation‘s cancellation is not the least bit surprising, given the programs dismal ratings.  It premiered on September 23rd to the tune of only 1.00 million viewers (a 0.7/1 household rating/share and a 0.3/1 rating/share among adults 18-49).

It’s final airing (October 14th) drew only 580,000 viewers (a 0.4/1 household rating/share and a 0.2/1 rating/share among adults 18-49).  Through four aired episodes, the series averaged 742,000 viewers, a 0.5/1 household rating/share and a 0.2/1 adults 18-49 rating/share.

Really, the only surprising bit of news is that the network didn’t also cancel the similarly low-rated new series CW Now (815,000 viewers, a 0.6/1 household rating/share and a 0.3/1 adults 18-49 rating/share).
