Having just cast their villain for the upcoming Star Trek, it appears that Paramount is getting closer to casting Captain Kirk. Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the studio is in discussions with actor Chris Pine to star as Kirk in Star Trek.
The actor is also in discussions to star opposite George Clooney in Joe Carnahan’s adaptation of the James Ellroy crime novel White Jazz. Star Trek is expected to shoot from November to March, while White Jazz has a mid-January start. That conflict in scheduling appears to be what’s holding up a deal.
It’s possible that Pine would have to choose one role over another.
Already cast in Star Trek, which will be released on December 25, 2008, are Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Leonard Nimoy reprising his role as Spock and Eric Bana as the film’s villain Nero.
