The doubleheader, season opening pro football special on ESPN delivered strong ratings for the first of the two games, but the second matchup drew the franchises lowest ratings ever.
The Cincinnati Bengals/Baltimore Ravens contest at 7:00 p.m. ET drew an 8.6 household rating (8.29 million households) and 11.1 million viewers, but the second matchup of San Francisco 49ers/Arizona Cardinals at 10:30 p.m. ET fell to a 6.9 rating (6.63 million households) and 8.5 million viewers, below the November 13th game between the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers which drew 9.6 million viewers.
Even still, the two games rank as the second and fifth-largest household audiences on cable television in 2007, behind Disney Channel’s High School Musical 2 (17.7 million viewers) and two episodes of The Closer (the season premiere’s 8.8 million viewers and the recent season finale’s 9.2 million viewers).
