“Save Jericho” Update from EP of Show June 1, 2007 1:28 am

Posted by Rosario T. Calabria in Jericho, News, Television.
trackback

Carol Barbee, executive producer of the canceled, but hoping to be revived CBS series Jericho, called in to the Shaun O’ Mac Show this past Thursday night to bring viewers up to date on the future of the series and thank everyone for their continued and overwhelming support.

You can listen to the program here (Carol calls in at the 9:54 mark), but I’ve transcribed some of what she said:

“We are working those channels behind the scenes, and we are the ones who are trying to broker something with CBS and there are other networks interested and there is interest..”

At the same time, she let it be known that it was still a “long shot”, but that “they [upper management] are listening, and it is making a difference.”

For more on the campaign, check out these two posts.

That’s great news! Hopefully something good will come of this. CBS is in a position where they can do something amazing considering all of the publicity that the show is getting but if they choose not to, hopefully another network will step in and save Jericho.

Thank you for your update on the save Jericho campaign. We are dilligently trying to make network television as we know it take notice that the public isn’t going to sit idley by and let them keep scrapping quality programming. Jericho is a fantastic show that bring the feeling of community together like no other show on tv can. I am a faithful and loyal follower of Jericho and don’t like feeling as if my dedication is diposable. I am not the most intelligent person in the world but I know what I like to watch on television and I like Jericho. I am sick to death of stupid reality shows and programs that have no storyline at all. This show really makes you use your head and think about what we would do in the same situations as the townspeople of Jericho. They all stand together to take care of one another and see to it that noone goes without food or water or medical attention. Noone is jumping from this bed to that bed, everyone is taking care of everyone else. No questions asked, you need something, we’ll help you. Isn’t that something especially in this day that this country needs right now, us all looking out for each other? No matter what we should be thankful that someone wrote this show and that real values are coming thru to the audience and being felt so deeply. That is why I fight so hard to save Jericho, it means more to me than I can put into words.

Great news. Thanks

This is fantastic news. I am really getting a sense that the end is close and we are going to win this. Jericho will be back for a second season, to which it is so obviously entitled.

Don’t forget to email Shaun and thank him for all he has done….he has been on board since the very early days.

Save Jericho !!

CBS – Only Season 2 Will Do !!

Fantastic news I was listening and when Carol called in I thought it had to be good news. Since the beginning I thought that Carol was a key person. Not hearing from her I always thought it was a good sign and indicative that something was going on. Well it was

Thanks for the update. This is really encouraging. Jericho is quality programming, which tv has been lacking for quite awhile. It’s original, thought provoking, and so well written and acted. It’s about time we viewers stand up and let networks know how tired we are of all the drivel they force-feed us. I hope the sponsors are taking note, too. We need another season of Jericho…and beyond.

Thanks for keeping us all up to date on this and thanks for giving a shout out to Shaun O’Mac’s Radio Show, he rocks and has been a voice for so many! Thanks Shaun. We passionate fans of Jericho will never give up till we get a season 2!

Thank you for the update. I have never fought for a show before even when others I’ve liked have been yanked off the air with no resolution. That being said, Jericho is worth fighting for. Not only is this a quality show, it is a show that reaches so many different people in so many different ways. This is also a fight to be heard by the networks. I, as a parent, am tired of not being able to watch anything but The Disney Channel or Nick at Night with my children. The networks need to pay attention or they’ll be left behind.

Thanks for the news! We are glad to know that the execs are hearing us. Our support has been unwaivering and will continue to be so. People want the networks to stop pulling off good shows and replacing them with junk. And, this whole campaign shows the power of the internet! SECOND SEASON OF JERICHO! KEEP FIGHTING!

Thanks for the update. This show is worthy of all the attentention it has gotten. It is truly a family show!!!! My famliy loves it. It is intelligent, and full of the values and morals that I want them to be exposed to!!!! The cast is great. The fact that these characters are loyal and passionate about their community is why we fell in love with it instantly. This was the only show we watched on CBS

I am so grateful to your post here, thank so much!

CBS is listening to us, we know this now, and I believe with all my heart that we will win our show back.

This is GREAT!!!! Jericho was one of the best shows on TV, and hopefully with the work of the Jericho Rangers, Shun, carole, and others it’ll be back for a very long life.

Thanks!!!!!!!

If CBS changes it mind, I will lift my boycott. Though their fall schedule looks quite awful and theres nothing that appeals to me; though the original CSI and Numbers is still decent I would watch those. CBS 07-08 is almost as bad as NBC’s fall of 1983 which featured Manimal and Supertrain. A minimum 13 episodes is what I require – else CBS is still on my sh*t list and forbidden my household.

Terrie's avatar 16. Terrie - June 1, 2007 7:25 am

Thanks for the acticle. Jericho is quality TV. It was a rare find for me because it takes a lot to keep me interested in any show. I’ve been hooked since the beginning and Jericho is certainly worth the battle to get it back on the air. Hopefully it will be back but until it’s official the efforts do not slow down for my family.

Mankey Family's avatar 17. Mankey Family - June 1, 2007 7:26 am

Thank you for the update. My family is hoping that somehow we get this wonderfully acted, perfectly casted, well written, family themed, sit on the edge of your seat excitment, keep your morals in the midst of chaos, and deeply thought provoking show back on our television screen. We could go on and on as to why Jericho is one of the best shows that has been on tv in a long time, and why it just needs the time to flourish, but I’d like to leave room for everyone else to comment. :-) Thank you for your post and information on this!

Many, many thanks to Shaun and his show for spreading the good word about Jericho. It was wonderful to hear what Carol had to say last night. Shaun’s show is the first online radio blog I have ever listened to–what a great introduction!

Thank you for reporting this ray of hope for Jericho. This is the first time I’ve ever been involved in trying to get a show renewed, but it’s also the first time in many years that there’s been something worth fighting for on television. I am not a fan of tv, but definitely am a fan of Jericho. Our whole family watched this show together and then discussed what was happening. We appreciate everyone who had a part in making the show and everyone who is playing a part in trying to bring it back!

Aside from the “long shot” reference, this is very encouraging news indeed. “Jericho” was a VERY welcome and quality alternative to the current flood of reality programming and crime dramas that dominant the current television landscape. “Jericho” dealt with interesting issues about about how the small-town survivors of a nuclear attack on the U.S. cope with a new reality… banding together and working together …or descending to baser instincts. Like a good book, each episode was a “must read” chapter in a great story. This story had some unique human issues to explore and was a program that CBS could have been very proud of long after its initial broadcast…. but at the moment, CBS prefers to schedule even more reality shows instead.. BLCCCHH!. http://www.jericholives.com

Thanks for this article. Jericho is one of the best shows on TV, and I hope that CBS will find a place on the schedule for it. If not, I hope another network will pick it up. As the people of Jericho are willing to fight for what they believe in, so are the viewers!

lucy's avatar 24. lucy - June 1, 2007 8:20 am

Excellent. Jericho was and is my favorite show. They must bring it back for another season. CBS has made some pretty bad decisions this year (Katie Couric, Kid Nation, cancelling Jericho), so now is a great time for them to redeem themselves.

Dwight Vivas's avatar 25. Dwight Vivas - June 1, 2007 8:22 am

Thank you so much for your article ! It’s rare these days to find a TV show with the quality of Jericho, it actually gives it’s viewers something to think & talk about after each episode ends. Jercho is the only show that has captured my interest to such a degree, that I will record it to watch at a later date if I’m not home when it airs.
My wife & I have watched every episode together, that in itself is also a rare thing, since we have slightly different taste in TV :o)
Maybe Jericho was just a numbers game to the bean counters, and if that’s the case it’s kinda sad, it means so much more to us. We the fans of Jericho were always there, they just didn’t take the time to count us, or understand our loyalty to Jericho !

Jericho fans are not going away anytime soon….
We are going to let our voices be heard. We just want our show back and we won’t stop until some changes are made. The offering of mindless reality shows is ruining TV….

Thanks for the article. Jericho is a terrific, thought provoking show for the whole family (mine from 10 to 88 yrs of age). Great conversations and bonding have resulted from watching this show. Certainly hope CBS or other network has the sense to bring Jericho back and keep it going. This is a very timely subject in today’s world.

Great work is being done by the rangers…keep up the fight!

Shaun has been great to the Bring Jericho Back movement!

I will NOT watch anything on CBS until they change their mind… and I’m encouraging everyone I know to do the same. Their fall line-up looks terrible, and I’m not interested in another lame reality show. The only thing worth watching now is Letterman, and sorry Dave, until Jericho comes back this family won’t be tuning in.

Lisa's avatar 34. Lisa - June 1, 2007 9:36 am

Thanks so much for writing about the SAVE JERICHO campaign in such a positive manner! We are NOT quitting or going away! We have blocked CBS from viewing in my families and extended families homes (5 viewing households), but will be overjoyed to return to CBS when Jericho is renewed for it’s second season! We have taken a stand and will continue to stand strong until we are heard! We are so tired of being told by the networks what we like and what we don’t like and it’s time for CBS to begin to rely on the ratings posed by the very platform they created for us…TV and an INTERACTIVE WEBSITE!

NUTS TO CBS!!!

This is an excellent example of the power of peaceful organized protest. We have CBS’s attention but we can’t allow ourselves become complacent when victory is so close at hand. Continue the fight Jericho Rangers.

Thank you for the update on the Save Jericho campaign. The Jericho Rangers were glued to our internet radio last night to hear Carol’s words of encouragement.

Jericho is the only show I have ever cared enough to fight for. And, I will fight to the bitter end.

I,too, will fight til the end to save JERICHO! It is a great family show….filled with such excitement. The hour went by so quickly!
My entire family of 4 watched every week and never missed an episode. I don’t think that has ever happened in our family. I know hubby and I NEVER agree on what to watch.
We’d really like to see more of the story of what happens to the world, Jericho and the characters. I love every last one of them!!
Well, not Constintino or Gray too much.

Thank you for a very nice, well-written article. I listened to Shaunomac’s radio program last night, and was thrilled to hear this update. All of the JERICHO fans have been working long and hard, and it’s just nice to hear what we’ve been saying is being heard. Quality programming is such a rare and precious thing these days, and CBS really should reconsider their decision to cancel JERICHO.

It’s rather nostalgic watching this campaign unfold. I’m probably giving away my age, but I was one of those millions of fans who wrote letters to NBC in order to save the original STAR TREK series. I well remember the joy it gave me to realize that a group of ordinary people could and did accomplish their goal. the JERICHO fans have already far exceeded what those STAR TREK fans did in they’ve managed to do all of this in a little over two weeks. No group of fans has ever come together so quickly to accomplish so much in such a short period of time. Kudos to you all.

Thank you again for the great article, and I say keep up the good work, Jericho fans! Together you’re a lite shining so brightly CBS cannot ignore it.
