It is being reported now, based on comments made by George Lopez, that his self-titled show has been canceled by ABC.
Exclaiming “TV just became really, really white again,” Lopez spoke of hearing about the cancellation from Steve McPherson, ABC president of prime-time entertainment. Lopez said that McPherson called him over the weekend to explain that the network would lose money if they picked the series up again.
“I get kicked out for a…caveman and shows that I out-performed because I’m not owned by [ABC Television Studios]…So a…Chicano can’t be on TV but a…caveman can?” Lopez said. “And a Chicano with an audience already? You know when you get in this that shows do not last forever, but this was an important show and to go unceremoniously like this hurts. One hundred seventy people lost their jobs.”

The George Lopez Show broke stereo type. It was a show of your average family. I think people of all races related to this show and it didn’t just cater to one demographic. I’m also very disappointed in the new ABC line up next fall. I’m sad to see a good family oriented show get cancelled.

Yeah… Nick@Nite did pick George Lopez up, but it’s only in syndication. I loved the George Lopez show, but truly… it’s good for George Lopez and the rest of the cash. TV Stars don’t make much money until syndication. But… I totally agree… ABC is a foolish station. (I love Disney… but they are really screwing up the original ABC). Maybe another channel such as Fox or NBC will pick him up. We can only hope, right?

I’m very sad that the show was cancelled. I’m African-American but could still relate to George and his family. It’s sad that ABC is going in a decline with the shows that they have been putting in the place of some good quality shows. I’m still dumbfounded that they put a caveman show on and got rid of The George Lopez Show. A lot of the shows they have on right now are JUST NOT FUNNY. I have to go to Nick at Night to get my George Lopez fix. We can only hope that a network with common sense picks up the show again. There are not that many quality shows with people of color on them and it’s very sad that one of the best has been taken away from the viewers. ABC what were you thinking?!

I am so grateful you canceled this show. I am not racially prejudiced, but I do notice most of those who want him back are hispanice. Why should he be allowed to make money off the American people when his personal public behavior was lewd and threatening toward Americans? (using a microphone to show what hispanics apparently do with American produce handling. He could incite race riots. How irresponsible and disgusting.
I liked the Show. It was a fun family show introducing us Anglos to a typical Latino American family life. Kind of like Leave it to Beaver with George as the grown up Beav.
The key point here is AMERICAN. George you’re no American and I don’t think you worked a day in your life picking anything. Your a disgrace to your father and heritage buying into this poor me bullshit.
I watched the America’s Mexican on Comedy Central the other night. All I can say is George you’re no American. I grew up in San Fernando a few miles from Brand Park where we played football in the late sixtie. We all played, white, black and Mexicans. Mostly we we’re all Americans. Yea from time to time there were racial tensions, always has been and from the looks of things always will be. With your kind of rhetoric becoming so poplar. The poor me, we’re all so abused and taken advantage of. Join the Union.
I moved to the Inland Empire in my sophomore year and did work in the orchards. I worked for everything I have and no one handed anything to me. The problem in this country is the give away society and those who seem to think it’s owed to them. Try just working hard and being satisfied with what you accomplished. We all struggle with the expenses in life
ABC sucks George Lopez should go back on the air
Hi! you all there. I’am a 12 hrs workingRN, I always finish my work on time so I can be home in time for nick at nite/10pm-11pm george lopez show and on social functions I tape the show. also, for your in formation my trip going home from work is good 30miles one way on a non traffic nite. Also, I am Filipina 100% , George Lopez Show is the Bomb.
I can honestly say, I’ve only just started watching the George Lopez show, and that’s only when it has come on Nick@Nite. I like the show, and its sense of humor; it’s one of the first shows in ages, that has gotten me to truly laugh. I pick up the remote with a smile on my face knowing the George Lopez show will be on anytime, and my smile doesn’t seem to die during the show at all (until the commercial break at least). I wish there was someway ABC would still air the George Lopez show, it does, afterall, have a loyal audience. Thank you George Lopez for your show, it taught me how to appreciate my friend Miranda (guessed right, she’s Mexican) so much more.

This is the best comedy on the air- I never heard of the show before Nick started airing it, just assumed it was a new independently produced series. I didn’t realize ABC had anything that funny. I’m white, but my white and hispanic friends all enjoy this show.
One of the few shows that can make a person of any ethnic origin truly laugh out loud.Maybe George will be the Latino version of Star Trek.

I have to say as a Caucasian, yes read that as white, I really enjoyed the George Lopez show. I pretty much discovered it when it became syndicated. I pretty much Tivo everything George Lopez now. I thought the humor and punchlines where some of the funniest out there. I was really disappointed with American’s Mexican, almost to the point where I shut it off and said no more George for me. Hey, I can take a joke or many jokes, but some of this was just racist crap. It’s funny how everyone else is racist except the person spouting the racism. The only redeeming point was how he ended it with the thanks he gave America. The issues and comedy used to portray said issues in TGLS were great, you could apply it to all of us in our daily struggles. I guess I was pissed not at the comedy special AM humor per se as a lot of it was funny, it was just disappointing to see such an intelligent guy waste his talent on cheap racist crap. I see Mr. Lopez on the talk shows promoting the new movie Henry Poole is Here and what a different attitude is displayed. Kind of funny when you change the audience demographics how the attitude changes. I would bet that Americans born from the early 70’s on have a much different take on racism than the eons of generations previous. You would be surprised how many of us (outside the 9% of people in the US that have Mexican heritage) support Americans in general rather than support based on race or ethnicity. I guess I just have this fantasy ideology that people like George Lopez realize most people are attracted by intelligent and cutting humor based out of his/their background and experiences but can stay the line where they don’t become the racists they despise. At minimum, its too bad they can’t do a proper ending to the series, it deserves that at minimum. In closing, I wish ABC or Nick would consider starting TGLS again – I am sure there is plenty of comedy left in Mr. Lopez and an audience for that comedy today.

Goerge Lopez was a spectacular show and very funny. ABC should be a fuckin shamed of themselves. They replace the show for some stupid caveman show. George Lopez committed himself to that show, he showed everyone his lifestyle, how it was and all of the struggles he went through. The man went through illness, child abuse, and so much more, so you cant really blame George Lopez for being pissed off i would be too. That show changed his life so much. Maybe it was because of race, because i thought when they said it was due to financial circumstances it was bullshit. That show was great and i wish the best for George. I hope that someday another network will start again, but if not i hope they will keep showing episodes on whatever network. ABC needs Jesus!

Cancelling the show was a huge mistake. I just started watching this show and i’ve become a big fan. Cant wait to buy the DVDs.

ABC is Stupid!!! I hope they read this! They are not only losing money, but cancelled a show that has been the funniest sit com and most watched and loved and can relate to show in a long time. If they want to make money and call George back up!!! and say come back you bet your ASS they will make money. ABC you know damb well that what people want is what makes money so put your tail between your legs and call George back.
I relly like that show, but not because it is a latino family, although that provides the basis for some of their jokes. I’m a little disappointed that George played the race card, but at the same time, I wish ABC wouldn’t have cancelled the show. I just discovered it a couple of months ago, but it’s hillarious and I wish they made new episodes.

I watch the Geoege Lopez show every night on NICK at Nite I love it. I wish i wouldnt have to see the same show over and over because ABC was too stupid to not keep it on. I agree with GL tv has be become WHITE again if its not a police show or law and order it can be good tv. im a black woman married to a white man and we both agree that tv is boring and we related to GL show as a family
