Spider-Man 3 has broken the record for single day gross, hitting an estimated $59M on Friday.
This means we have a new single day record holder, and a possible new three day weekend holder. It’s expected to reach somewhere between $135-145M over the weekend.
Additionally, Spider-Man 3 pulled in $45M overseas, for a total single day worldwide take of $104M. That figure also represents a new record for the largest single day worldwide gross.
Here are a few of the current records that could be broken:
Biggest Opening Weekend
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $135.63M
Biggest Single Day
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $55.83M
Biggest Saturday
Shrek 2 — $44.80M
Biggest Sunday
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest — $35.36M
I will continue to look and report on the box office for Spider-Man 3 throughout the weekend.
