ABC narrowly passes up CBS to take the first Sunday of May sweeps.

ABC finished in a tie for first on the evening among households with a 7.4/13 household rating and first among viewers (11.78 million) and among adults 18-49 (4.4/13 rating).

  • Last Week:

  • 7:00 p.m.: America’s Funniest Home Videos (4.7/10 HH rating, 8.44M viewers, 2.7/10 A18-49 rating) kicked off the evening for ABC with a first place finish on the hour among adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 4.9/10 to 4.7/10
      • Viewers – 8.47M to 8.44M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.5/9 to 2.7/10
  • 8:00 p.m.: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (6.3/11 HH rating, 10.32M viewers, 3.8/11 A18-49 rating) continued ABC’s winning streak among adults 18-49, finishing in first place again for the hour, just slightly ahead of FOX’s double offering of The Simpsons.

      • Viewers – 10.68M to 10.32M
      • Adults 18-49 – 4.1/11 to 3.8/11
  • 9:00 p.m.: Desperate Housewives (10.8/17 HH rating, 16.85M viewers, 6.6/17 A18-49 rating) peaked up a bit as it nears its season finale, growing 940,000 viewers, 6% among households and 8% among adults 18-49.

      • Viewers – 15.91M to 16.85M
      • Adults 18-49 – 6.1/15 to 6.6/17
  • 10:00: Brothers & Sisters (7.9/13 HH rating, 11.52M viewers, 4.4/12 A18-49 rating) remained strong, with solid retention rates out of ‘Housewives’.

CBS followed tied for first on the night with ABC among households with a 7.4/13 household rating, second among viewers (11.55 million) and third among adults 18-49 with a 2.7/8 rating.

  • 7:00 p.m.: 60 Minutes (7.1/14 HH rating, 10.77M viewers, 1.9/7 A18-49 rating) gave CBS a win for the hour among households and viewers, but had to settle for second among adults 18-49, losing out to ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos in the key demo.

  • 8:00 p.m.: The Amazing Race All-Stars (5.8/10 HH rating, 9.52M viewers, 3.0/9 A18-49 rating) continued its trend of losing total audience from its lead-in, while still growing from its lead-in in the key A18-49 demographic.  Additionally, the show was up 830,000 viewers, and 7% among households and adults 18-49 from the week prior.

      • Viewers – 8.69M to 9.52M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.8/8 to 3.0/9
  • 9:00 p.m.: Cold Case (7.8/12 HH rating, 12.20M viewers, 2.7/7 A18-49 rating) returned even from its last newly aired episode among households and viewers, though did dip some among adults 18-49 (-10%).

      • Households – 7.7/12 to 7.8/12
      • Viewers – 12.19M to 12.20M
      • Adults 18-49 – 3.0/7 to 2.7/7
  • 10:00 p.m.: Without a Trace (8.9/15 HH rating, 13.69M viewers, 3.2/9 A18-49 rating) ended the evening as CBS’s top-rated and most watched show across the board.  Negatively, it was down slightly from its last newly aired episode.

      • Adults 18-49 – 3.5/9 to 3.2/9
    • Last weeks numbers (Hallmark Hall of Fame Movie Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness — 9:00-11:00 p.m.):

      • Viewers – 10.66M
      • Adults 18-49 – 2.3/6

NBC finished in third place for the evening with a 4.3/8 household rating, but fell to fourth place among viewers (6.37 million) and among adults 18-49 (1.7/5 rating).

  • 7:00-9:00 p.m.: A two-hour edition of Dateline NBC (5.3/10 HH rating, 7.66M viewers, 1.6/5 A18-49 rating) grew quite nicely from last week, and was NBC’s highest rated and most watched program among households and viewers.

      • Households – 3.9/7 to 5.3/10
      • Viewers – 5.48M to 7.66M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.4/4 to 1.6/5
  • 9:00-11:00 p.m.: The theatrical film Along Came Polly (3.3/6 HH rating, 4.97M viewers, 1.7/5 A18-49 rating) paced well below what the time slot normally averages.

      • Viewers – 9.25M

Fox followed in fourth place for the evening with a 3.9/7 household rating, but was third among viewers (6.40 million) and an even better second among adults 18-49 with a 3.1/9 rating.

  • 7:00 & 7:30 p.m.: Back-to-back new episodes of King of the Hill (2.3/5 HH rating, 3.56M viewers, 1.7/6 A18-49 rating) and (2.6/5 HH rating, 4.15M viewers, 2.0/7 A18-49 rating) peaked up slightly from last week’s half-hour installment, though the show remains well down from where it began earlier in the season.
    • Week-to-week numbers (King of the Hill — 7:30 p.m.):
      • Households – 2.2/4 to 2.6/5
      • Viewers – 3.34M to 4.15M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.6/5 to 2.0/7
    • Last weeks numbers (The War at Home — 7:00 p.m.):
      • Households – 1.9/4
      • Viewers – 2.85M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.2/5
  • 8:00 & 8:30 p.m.: A new episode of The Simpsons (4.5/8 HH rating, 7.54M viewers, 3.6/11 A18-49 rating) and a repeat of The Simpsons (4.7/8 HH rating, 8.15M viewers, 3.8/11 A18-49 rating) provided a solid overall rating for FOX.  Worth noting was a repeat of the show was actually able to out-rate a new episode.  That certainly doesn’t happen often.

      • Viewers – 6.46M to 7.54M
      • Adults 18-49 – 3.0/9 to 3.6/11

      • Adults 18-49 – 3.1/8
  • 9:00 & 9:30 p.m.: New episodes of Family Guy (4.9/8 HH rating, 8.22M viewers, 4.1/11 A18-49 rating) and American Dad (4.2/7 HH rating, 6.77M viewers, 3.4/9 A18-49 rating) returned on par with their last newly aired episodes.  Family Guy was the networks top-rated program among the key A18-49 demographic.

The CW was left then in fifth place with a 1.2/2 household rating, 1.85 million total viewers and a 0.7/2 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 7:00 p.m.: A repeat of 7th Heaven (0.9/2 HH rating, 1.23M viewers, 0.4/2 A18-49 rating) began another lowly viewed evening on The CW.

      • Households – 1.0/2
      • Viewers – 1.34M
      • Adults 18-49 – 0.5/2
  • 8:00 p.m.: 7th Heaven (1.8/3 HH rating, 2.86M viewers, 1.1/3 A18-49 rating) managed to bump up a tad from last week, notching slight increases among viewers and adults 18-49.

      • Households – 1.9/3 to 1.8/3
      • Viewers – 2.79M to 2.86M
      • Adults 18-49 – 1.0/3 to 1.1/3
  • 9:00 p.m.: An encore of America’s Next Top Model (1.1/2 HH rating, 1.48M viewers, 0.7/2 A18-49 rating) ended the evening for The CW.

      • Households – 1.1/2
      • Viewers – 1.56M
      • Adults 18-49 – 0.7/2
