“Dexter” renewed for a second season November 3, 2006 6:13 pm

Showtime has ordered a second season of its new show “Dexter”. The series premiered with 603,000 viewers on Sunday, October 1 at 10:00PM with a solid 443,000 viewers tuning in for the immediate repeat at 11:00PM, bringing the total to 1.04M for the first episode.  Those numbers were Showtime’s best since the premiere of “Fat Actress” back in March of 2005.

The series has continued to average about 2M viewers a week when tallying all airings on the Showtime networks.

Production will begin on 12 new episodes in early 2007 for a 2nd season premiere of Summer 2007.

ABC has given the sophomore drama “What About Brian” an addition four episode order, bringing its season 2 run to 17 episodes.

The show has been solid, though not spectacular for ABC, averaging 6.86M viewers a night with a 3.0/8 A18-49 rating in its current Monday at 10 PM timeslot.

The series has shown great retention rates out of “The Bachelor” in viewers at around 85%, but most especially in adults 18-49, where it is retaining a very strong 94% of its lead-in.

“Brothers & Sisters” will have a chance to play out its full season, as ABC has given the go ahead on the back nine.

Though the series has not been able to match the performance of former time-period holder “Grey’s Anatomy”, it consistently performs well in A18-49, where it is currently the second highest rated freshman series in the demo (behind “Heroes”).

Through 4 episodes, the series has averaged 13.58M viewers and a 4.9 A18-49 rating.

Sci Fi Wire is reporting that the Sci Fi Channel has ordered a full second season of its original reality series, expanding the show from 6 episodes to 10 one-hour episodes.

Who Wants to Be a Superhero? was a success for us on many levels last summer,” Mark Stern, SCI FI’s executive vice president, original programming, said in a statement. “The show garnered great reviews, attracted a record-breaking number of younger viewers to the channel and held its own against some very stiff competition on Thursday nights.”

The first season of the show averaged a 1.1 household rating, good enough for an average of 1.5M viewers per week.

Sci Fi has renewed its freshman dramedy Eureka for an additional 13 episodes.

All the original cast is expected to return for the shows second season, with production set to begin in the Spring of next year for a debut of Summer of 2007.

The series premiered with a very strong 3.2 rating (4.1M viewers) before settling into an average rating of 2.2 (2.7M viewers).

It was the highest rated original series on Sci Fi over the summer, beating Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 and is credited with bringing an addition 5M new viewers to the network over the course of the shows 13 episodes.

  • 2.7M Viewers 2+
  • 1.5M Viewers 25-54
  • 1.3M Viewers 18-49

The AMC series (co-produced with BBC) has started production in London on the fourth season.
6 episodes will make up the fourth season, with the season premiere set for March of 2007.

CBS has decided to go ahead with a new season of their Emmy winning reality based tv-series.

The series premiered its 10th season this past Sunday to the tune of 10.57M viewers (#38) and a 3.9 Rating in A18-49.

The 11th season will launch in the Spring of 2007.

The Showbiz Show with David Spade has been renewed by Comedy Central for an additional 13 episodes.

The new season will debut in February of next year.

In a decision which should surprise no one, HBO has renewed Entourage for a fourth season. 12 new episodes were ordered.

So far this season, the series has averaged a healthy 2.5M viewers, ahead of other HBO shows like Deadwood (which has been canceled but will supposedly return in the form of TV movie) and Lucky Louie which was also canceled (story here).

New episodes of Season 3 will start up again in March of 2007, with Season 4 expected to begin soon thereafter.

Showtime has renewed its critically acclaimed freshman series Brotherhood for another year, ordering 10 episodes.

The series premiered with 454,000 viewers back in July of this year. A total of 1.2M viewers watched the premiere and its repeats in the first week.

Second season episodes are scheduled to premiere in January of 2007.

According to “a person familiar with the matter” (as reported by TV Week), USA Network has renewed both its freshman Dramedy “Psych”and its long running Sci-Fi/Supernatural series “The Dead Zone”.
