Samuel Bayer has been tapped by Platinum Dunes to direct the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. Bayer’s background is that of a music video director, responsible for directing Nirvana’s award-winning Smells Like Teen Spirit. The film is being scripted by Wesley Strick (Arachnophobia).

Just last week, Platinum Dunes and New Line announced that they were working on a new installment in the Nightmare on Elm Street horror franchise. Though few details are known, the original Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) will not be in the film.
